BBC Three doc about Prince's Millions I know you're not supposed to solicit Bootys on ere, so I won't bother doing that.
But I remember seeing this show on BBC Three ages ago about how he... well, not spunked all his cash, but it pretty much gives a breakdown of all his funds - where it was accumulated and how it's spent.
Does anyone know the name of this?
I'm not really that bothered with cash in general, but I'm always interested in how he likes to get paid for his work, and how much he actually charges for gigs, or royalties (with paper givaways etc.). From a Music Business POV. I mean, he must be fucking LOADED. I know he gives to charity - but how much cash does a person need? Y'know?
I've seen this topic on the forums somewhere from when it was originally on, but I couldn't find the answer I seek. Did anyone do a fan release or something?
A-Thank you. | |

I think the one you are referring to is called Liquid Assets -Prince's Millions. It is available on the Purple DVD's label.

From the databank.... This is less a 'documentary' - more a fun look at Prince's finances. The basic premise of the show is they add up Prince's earnings through record sales, record contracts, tour earnings, merchandise, etc - then subtract his out-goings on property, clothes, dubious projects, luxuries, etc. It is in NO way meant to be serious, and there are some VERY funny moments in the show (the male presenter stepping out of a 'Little Red Corvette' wearing 10-inch fuck-me heels springs to mind). There's also some decent footage of Prince & Mayte's Spanish villa, along with one of his mansions which is up for sale (the one from the 18 + over video), along with a tour of his old basement studio by a certain Gayle Chapman. All good harmless fun.

This was a while back, forgot all about this - it was part of a series, not just Prince. And it has to be noted that BBC3 is a teen/young adult channel mainly known for terrible, terrible sitcoms and shock-docs.
One thing that always sticks in my mind about Prince's finances whenever the subject is covered in doc's etc, is a quote, I forget who but it was in some documentary, where someone said something to the effect that if Prince had shoved $10 million of cocaine up his nose in Hollywood, no one would batter an eyelid, but that he spent that amount on building a studio complex in Minnesota - now that's crazy! And it's true!

This documentary was quite interesting, i'd recommend it, even if the presenter was rather irritating..
I'd also recommend Prince: A Document on Amazon, that's a good documentary.... [Edited 11/28/11 2:01am]

Oh yeah, that was from 'Prince of Paisley Park' (aka 'Omnibus'?). Rolling Stone's Kurt Loder said that.

Prince has to be loaded! Ignoring his whole Warner Bro's career, lets just say he is broke from that...
Emanipation & Crystal Ball made him $25 million
When he played with the Big Boys with Rave - Musicology he made pretty much close to $15-20 million
Now add Musicology Tour he made $90 million.
Now add since then, these $3-5 million for one night events.
Prince is pretty much loaded.
Well he should be if he didnt blow it on stupid crap!

D'oh! You're right... it was Neil Karlen, the guy who interviewed him in that 1985 issue! [Edited 11/29/11 15:11pm]
