like chuck d said'people got lazy at prince's brilliance" That is so true
could almost be the orgs tagline.."we are ignorant to his brilliance"
when i read all this negativity to 3121 or to lotusflower or even some of his live (live???)performances you feel that chuck has nailed it
As fans of arguably THE most creative and talented force EVER in popular music we have perhaps come too complacent
i guess im lucky-im still pretty much in awe of this cats talent and still hold a profound love of his music waiting for another SOTT has never featured in my logic. i have enjoyed watching and listening his music devolop and progress(somtimes regress!) where he goes or what he says is of little interest to me as long as he keeps on dropping music in me im good! didnt joni once say something about got till its gone...
anyway just my wee four penneth

Well, I think prince could improve his music in some ways, but yes, I think people are way too harsh at times. Weirdest of all is the malice and hatred.
Especially considering the music he has released in the past 10-15 years. For better or worse, it has been fairly consistent, and people should not be all that shocked and horrified by what he does anymore.
Even Purple and Gold did nothing more than get a little laugh from me. My Legacy

I have said this before about Prince ---
I have been supercritical about some recent releases etc (lotusstinkyflower etc) - - however every time I think Prince is almost irrelevant and loses me - he seems to impress me with something or sucks me back into the fold ....
he did this in the 1995 era with "gold" ....
then again around "musicology" and "3121"...
so I see where Chuck D is comin from ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

To those whom much is given, much is expected.
We know what he is capable of and when he falls short of that it can be disappointing.

When Chuck D said this I thought at last someone is saying it like it is. I know its all about quality and not quantity, but that is why we (sorry, I) are in awe of Prince, why he's a genius, why there's nobody better; being so prolific and it all being so good. Really, sometimes I wonder how is it possible that one man can have so much musical talent.
And credit where credits due; for the most important rapper to wax lyrical about Prince, I mean we all know that he's an admirer, but to basically say that there's no better musician on the planet, and to talk specifically about Purple Rain in the way that he did, you got to applaud the man. Thanks Chuck.

Prince's music and product stopped connecting with folks - the lyrics, the music, the sound, and the image stopped connecting with the masses.
It's okay for people to change their tastes.
This doesn't mean Prince's music doesn't have any worth anymore - he doesn't have music that makes people move like it did in the 80s and early 90s.

Some people just can't express themselves without resorting to extremes. So if they dislike something it's just "shit" to them. It seems like some people can't change their initial impressions either. If they've chosen to dislike something on the first listening they can't get over it on later listening sessions either. Once you've, you know, typed your negative opinion on the .org, you can't change it either.
I always have to laugh when some orgers state, e.g. that 3121 was "brilliant" while "Planet Earth" was "shit". As if they would have been that different stylistically or songwriting-wise... or someone ranting on "Chelsea Rodgers" because it has a disco beat... not to mention people calling "Ol' Skool Company" a "Prince attempting to do gangsta rap". When you look at the "reasoning" people are giving for their most negative comments it should be apparent how seriously you should take them.
