Its not bad and not great. Its a nice idea and Ms. Rose seemed to enjoy your performance.

You don't appear to be mocking or trying to "be" Prince which is good. He's a character you're playing. In order to pull it off you need more practice if you continue doing parties.

In fairness, I have not listened to your performance, I would not expect you to get everything about him perfect. What I do respect is your willingness to this act at all, for some it would be too easy to ridicule you when they would never have the courage to do that themselves. If you have enough customers to make a decent check, you're doing great.

I have never made a dime prior to this and it was the insistence of my co-worker. I usually do Paul Stanley of KISS. It has always been for charity. This was my 3rd time doing Prince. I also did Purple Rain but did not bother posting as the camera man drowned me out with his singing, LOL!

I have a good enough paying check, thankfully that I would not have to rely on this; no way I could. I do however, totally enjoy it. I wish I were truly talented, but I think bravado is a talent as well as you pointed out.

If someone was laughing, I hope it was out of enjoyment, but for $100 for less than 15 minutes and a free dinner, I think I should be laughing. Plus I made a co-worker and her grandmother happy and enjoyed a good party!

lol this is a perfect prince-0-gram!!

den i think u are a legend! this was so entertaining & i giggled me tits off!!

u seemed quite confident & delivered some princey mannerisms/moves.. which was probably enough to pull something like this off

the outfit was great, i loved when u went to get the jacket, changing the words up 4 the occasion was cool, convo with rose, talking about coming from minniapolis & keeping straight faced brilliant.

your voice really doesn't matter, but if u can tighten up the act, make the princey moves more exaggerated & maybe wear some shades, make the hair shorter & less blackface, u could try getting sexy on the floor & stuff wink

seriously u could market yourself as a 'prince o gram' without changing much at all, i'd hire u

You did a good job. Keep at it and you wil get better. I agree w/ the person who said you should tighten up the act and make the Princey moves more exaggerated. Sunglasses are a good idea. I liked it. Make your extra money! If you ever have a crowd of Prince fans make sure you are more energetic.

I agree! That certainly is the vibe I got. If you continue to do Prince-put makeup on your neck.

I agree about the Alice Cooper thing - though I thought Frank Zappa, myself.

Make-up on the neck... falloff

I get the Cooper/Zappa resemblance a lot. Hate it, but I can't help how I look. Is the Prince look really off the mark? I try to keep the shirt buttoned but it can get very warm performing. I even had my press photo airbrushed to have the neck match the face.

Anyway, I posted here because I knew the best and most avid Prince fans frequent this board. You could have all ripped me a new one, but I was prepared for any criticism provided. I wanted to know how some of you felt. I found out from the granddaughter (and she was not bullshitting me) that the laughter you hear is towards another relative in the corner acting stupid. I do remember that now but at the time I just ignored it (as any performer should). He was dancing around with a red jacket over his head!

I read all you have posted and plan to use all the good ideas towards the next time I get to do this. I have no idea when as gigs can be hard to find, but if it's OK, I'd love to share the next one, and hopefully it will be better. Thanks again!!!!

It was a co-worker's grandmother and thankfully the laughter was not towards me as initially thought.

So were we when we saw you at the second Toronto show... it was a bit embarassing watching you in your Prince get up.

The irony!

Truth be told man, charity's a good thing. If you're doing something for charity, you don't have to look or sound perfect. You just need to know that you're doing a good thing. (Sure, Prince wouldn't see it that way if he'd stumble across this, but still...)

But, in all honesty, not bad. Trust me, I've seen much much worse Prince imitations.

Here's the bad news:

You don't look like Prince.

Here's the good news:

Neither do most impersonators. lol

If you're keeping your act lighthearted and fun and not trying to sell yourself as a dead ringer for Prince, only one thing matters...

Are you having fun?
If so, fuck what u hurrrrrrrrrrrrrd. Carry on. wink
