Another Lonely Christmas (tis the season)

Remember we played pokeno for money, and ya robbed me blind?

I dont think he has sung a song with as much passion.Thank you for this.

The delivery is so painful and passionate. Prince was in a vibe on this one.

Only Prince would come up with a Xmas song about death! Flipping the script on xmas carols LOL!But its still beautiful--thats the kicker...eff a ding dong xmas bells are ringing! He's saying .."now look yall..my true love that I grew up with died on xmas day ...shit like this happens! Wrote a song about it..wanna hear it? Here it go"... this song is one of the reasons I love Prince and am man enough to say it.

However it is obviously and admittedly a work of fiction. It's cool that he is able to write with such conviction that you sort of believe there was a Lonely Xmas, a Nikki, a Dorothy parker (his version) etc. He is like..a method actor of music in that aspect imo.

I like this song too. But probably because of it's downbeat nature it doesn't get much love on the radio during the holidays. At least I never hear it.

Now is the season to listen to the instrumental versions of God too.

They both of them have that acoustic sound to them. Little use of synths etc., great live drumming.. The impassioned vocals and the dramatic lyrics makes this one of his best "story" enigma songs The opening of the song with the chorus being sung first is like it pushes you immediately in the song. Then he begins singing as if he is talking to the person. And banna daquaries(sp?) and
pokeno ( I love that game) brings it close to home. Then he says how she dies on the 25th day of December and screams "last night.."....the breakdown when he says the " doctor said u were dead" then "another lonely christmas is mine,,yeah..mine..yeah.. another lonely christmas is mine..then part where he says the last chrorus "another lonely christmas.." has always got
me in my throat.

Its so emotion filled that u gotta say damn...its as if he was screaming that part on his back in pain lie he was doing The Beautiful Ones on his back..Then the coda with all live instruments competing and the guitar in another channel breaking it down Jimi style and the drums still pounding aways with the piano keys making their important embellishments...and then it all breaks down so quietly with that ..that Prince synth afterglow that is his trademark of the eighties. Thank god he made this song. Its cathartic.

.

Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U should've been there
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4

Remember the time we swam naked in your father's pool
Boy, he was upset that night
But boy, was that ever cool
Remember that night we played pokeno 4 money
And U robbed me blind
Remember how U used 2 scream so loud cuz U....
U hated that number 9
Hey, I saw your sister skatin' on the lake this afternoon
Good heaven, how she's grown
She swoons the boy skaters cuz she's so tall
But of all your father's children
All your father's children, baby
U know U are the finest of them all
U are brighter than the northern star and I....

Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U, U should've been there
Cuz U see, of all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4, listen

Do U still like banana daiquiris?
Boy, we used 2 get so tight
Ooh, U used 2 get so horny
U made me leave the lights on
I'd pay money just 2 see your laughin' dancin' silhouette upon the pier
Sometimes I think I hear U smiling
Sometimes I think U're here
I find myself holdin' every pillow in the bed U and I used 2 share
Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, U should be, U should be there

Cuz U see, last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U, U should've been there
Cuz U see, of all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4, yeah

My mama used 2 say always trust your lover
But now I guess that only applies 2 her
Cuz baby, U promised me
Baby, U promised me U'd never leave
Then U died on the 25th day of December

Oh baby, last night, oh, I spent another lonely, lonely Christmas
Darling, baby, U, U should've been there
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that makes my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4, yeah

Your father said it was pneumonia
Your mother said it was stress
But the doctor said U were dead and I....
I say it's senseless
Every Christmas night 4 7 years now
I drink banana daiquiris till I'm blind
As long as I can hear U smiling, baby
U won't hear my tears
Another lonely Christmas is mine, yeah, mine, yeah
Another lonely Christmas is mine

Last night, yeah, I spent another lonely, lonely Christmas
Darling, darling, U should've been there, yeah
Cuz all the ones I dream about
U are the one that make my love shout
U see, U are the only one I care 4

Another lonely....

Of all your mother's children, you are the finest of them all. I actually said that to my then-girlfriend. She laughed. I don't really like to talk about personal things here, but this thread brings it back. Strange how Prince can write a song from fiction that comes true for one of his listeners. Anyway, have a happy xmas

It is absolutely possible to have a blackout (ie, drink oneself blind) without puking or passing out.

This actually happened!

'I never want to hear it again.' Grandma who was felled by deer maintains her sense of humor

Ruth Morris of Rantoul sits in a recliner in her room at Prairie Village Retirement Community. A stuffed reindeer is perched on a table next to her — a gift from Julie Hardy of Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch.

“I think I ought to turn it around,” Morris said with a laugh. “It’s looking at me.”

Morris is slowly recovering from injuries she received last week when she was run over by a reindeer at the ranch west of Rantoul.

She lost quite a bit of blood, she said, and she still doesn’t have much energy.

“I’m surprised,” Morris said. She thought she’d be feeling better by now. For someone who is 89, Morris is about as active and alert as one can be. But the reindeer incident took a lot out of her.

The octogenarian never much cared for the song “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer.” Now she likes it even less.

Yes, she is a grandma. She has three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. But the thought of being bulldozed by a doe named Daisy that was in heat doesn’t elicit fond memories.

“I never want to hear it again,” she said with a chuckle. “Too close to home.”

Not that Morris doesn’t have a sense of humor. Yolanda Keefe, Prairie Village activity director, said when Morris went down, she tried to calm everybody.

“She was trying to make us feel better,” Keefe said. “She was talking and laughing.”

Not that the injuries weren’t serious. The deer’s antlers caused three wounds in Morris’ arms, which she raised to protect her face when the deer came at her.

She lauded a former EMT who was at the scene, John James, and a friend of his for keeping her arms raised to help slow the blood loss until an ambulance arrived.

Morris was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she said her wounds were cleaned, she was given a tetanus shot and was bandaged up. She was back at Prairie Village by 6:30 Wednesday evening.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon when Morris and some other residents of Prairie Village were visiting the reindeer ranch. They had been in an area where visitors could feed the reindeer. As they were leaving, a tour guide asked for the last person out to close the gate.

That was Morris, and as she turned to close the gate, she saw the deer come at her, determined to get out.

“I don’t think she was after me,” Morris said. “She just wanted out.”

The deer knocked Morris over but didn’t trample her.

Owner Mark Hardy said the deer has since been moved to another area away from the public.

Morris said she was disappointed she had spoiled the trip for everyone. She also wanted to see the reindeer ranch’s new pumpkin cannon. That’s the way she is, Keefe said. Always thinking of other people first.

Someone grabbed Morris’ cell phone, which had fallen out of her pocket, and called 9-1-1. Keefe said the ambulance was on the scene “seven or eight minutes” later.

I was just talking 2 some1 about this song last night! eek

Excuse me if I sound a little complicated but,

2 make it plain and simple, I look at death like this, the day that I die will be actually be my birthday.

I will be born.

I used 2 pray that I could die the same day Jesus had died but then I realized that is not the day.

Anyway, this thread here as made me realize that I can master fear not only by understanding it but also by accepting it myself.

This song makes me realize that the ultimate evil would be the absence of love.

A life outside it would be more evil than a death in it.

The wisdom of life is 2 endure what we must & 2 change what we can. cool

Work which is the best sublimation 4 our rage & anger & the truest escape from self-pity & which will help 2 bring about a society where there will be "food & security & freedom 4 all."

After reading these lyrics,

I can master fear through faith.

faith in the worthwhileness of life & the trustworthiness of God.

faith in the meaning of my pain & my striving.

the confidence that God will not cast me aside but will use each 1 of us as a piece of priceless mosaic in the design of His universe.

And let me know that I can not travel beyond the arms of the Divine.

On the request of RDHull, I am responding to the thread of @Anothe Lonelz Cheistmas@ bz Prince and the Revolution.

A wonderful b/side to @I Would Die 4 U@, it was released in two forms...

...the edit sucks.

Find the full version.

Prince probablz did most of the instrumentation himself, which is amaying considering the scape of sounds. Not unlike the @God@ insrumental, it sounded extremelz wide and without borders.

As far as the lzrics, kitsch.

Prost!
