There is already a thread for this, and the majority said Nay which is right IMO, it was an act of butchery to me, absolutely dreadful compared to the classic original.

Even though the majority said Yay over here.

I'm not wild about the song altogether, old or new but I'll give it a YAY! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

TheFreakerFantastic said: There is already a thread for this, and the majority said Nay which is right IMO, it was an act of butchery to me, absolutely dreadful compared to the classic original. This thread tells a different story The org is just a microcosm. Normally it's just the opinions of 40 or so people. There are a shit load of people who never bother to post. They probably just take it as it comes and don't feel the need to either to defend to the hilt or slag off as if the new Prince Song is a crime and anyone who dares to like should be locked up as a deluded mental case. Yayy!
COPY & PASTE...Haha
It can not be compared to the original because that is just timeless. Can't be touched by any effort. I appreciate Prince stepping out to visit his vault though, and while some would argue that he would do better leaving his vault material alone as it comes to remaking songs, this was not bad at all. Definitively something can make me dance, and groove. BUT THE RAP....
It really reminded me of when Eve rapped on 'Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic' the remix of 'TGRES'. She sounds exactly like her, (the groove and rap does anyways.) I did not mind the rap, cause Andy's voice is sexy. Haha, and it would have been HORRIBLE if Prince did the rap himself like he did in Sticky Like Glue. But this was not bad at all. I dig it, although I wish he went into a SOARING guitar solo at the end, he would have sealed it with that!
I am prety happy he at least released this, it promises more music soon..Well to me. At the end it seemed as if it would fade into another song. Like he normally does, I am sure Andy will be on his new album! No doubt about that! Haha, this was above average but nothing extraordinary for me. It really does not need to be, I still have the original to jam to! Haha
BUT it was not THE WORST. I don't think he should feel embarrassed or bad. (Well a little, because he did not release it in the States..AGAIN! But I got my hands on it anyways...lol) When he chooses to release music just somewhere and not everywhere, all he is doing is promoting another way to get it. AND I sure as hell will go that way to listen to it...So thank you! LOL) Seeing as I have formed a close relationship with the bootlegg and the rawness and passion the first one brought, this could not even match it. I don't think it suppose to! I mean we have the original one, so if anyone is not happy with this, just check out the original one. I think he did this to make the song sound more 'current' if you will? It's Prince he does stuff like this all the time...Like with 'In A Large Room With No Light' that was just great! It worked because that song was never really 'funky' to begin with but a fusion of Stevie Wonder, Prince, and the Revolution. IMO 'Extralovable' is originally funky, and when you remake a 'funky' song you better believe it should be RAW or even more off the edge as the original one, UNLESS you just want it to go with the flow. Haha..IDK?
SO FINALLY: This was not bad at all, the only major criticism and review is the RAP! Damn, listening to it now, made me just SMH. It's actually not that bad because her voice goes with it and I said her voice is sexy. It just sounds VERY happy, like a energy song you can jam at the gym, and not as raw and off the edge. But It's a groove!

Nay. Love the original though. I need another version like I need a hole in my head.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nay,
Just as generic and unexciting as most of the songs on MPLsound and 20ten.
I don't like the original a lot either. I can see why he never officially released it before.

Very much yes. | |

Definite YES for me, I can't wait to stick it on when I get up in the morning and when I get home from work and then play it 4 or 5 times in a row!

Meh. | |

Do all yay-sayers know and respect the original? Do all nay-sayers respect the effort of the new version? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Oh yeah. Big, fat "Yay".
Listen to the full version, through good monitors/speakers...
I cranked it up through my studio monitors, and this is one Funky jam.
The breakdown near the end is tremendously funky... "He's a musician's musician..."

Agreed! I think this is a great new interpretation of the demo vesion that we all know and love. Not saying it is better, but for me it definately is a little treat!
I like all of the synth sounds used on this track, it's good to hear he found back his mojo for good synth sounds.
All n all: Yay! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

absolutely yay | |

I really wish I could hear the genius in the new version.
Still nay from me, ----- awful song.
Prince's music today sounds like a parody of what he used to be.
(now go on and hate me for telling you that ) Prince 4Ever.

if it was on iTunes US store, I would have an opinion
But re-working unreleased songs certainly doesn't bother me. That's his choice--he did not release them so they are his, not ours, not the world's. He has re-vamped old songs before (several on Graffiti Bridge) and I don't mind at all. My Legacy
