It's been a while - show us your Hohners! Come on people, these beauties are changing hands all the time and I love 'em. So many different looking models, different headstocks, pickguards, colours, woods, everything... so come on & upload a photo of your Hohners [and other P guitars you may have in stock!] lets try to get a good 'ol collection on here. So here are mine; The Prinz [post fender headstock law suit model] from 1987ish I believe, and TE Prinz from the 90's Both purchased from other collectors over the last few months. The Cloud was my first ever guitar, got it from a dealer in MN for a $few$ but I do love it. Best wishes to you all.
P.S. Found some very OLD posts about this, so old I can't even 'reply' to them so I wanted to start fresh. [Edited 11/8/11 13:25pm] [Edited 11/8/11 13:27pm] [Edited 11/8/11 13:43pm]

Astasheiks said: Question for Osxandy do you play and play well or do you just collect guitars??? hi Astesheiks, good question.....I'm a clasical pianist 1st, been in a few groups playing keys, always strummed a bit on an old spanish guitar we had in the house whilst growing up and can knock out the odd funky riff on my telecaster when the mood takes me, but i would never say I play well.

I've been on the lookout for one of the original late 70's issue Hohner Mad Cat Teles or the H.S. Anderson Model as well... They are hard to find & very expensive if they're in good shape...
Which is your favorite of the reissues?

Which is your favorite of the reissues? hey DaveG, the one i play the most is the TE Prinz from the 90s, its sooo heavy and carries so much tone with a great action. frankly i'd give them all up for a really good Madcat i agree it's the one to aim for, i will get one eventually. cheers

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I got it from Amazon I dont think they have any left but they do sell used ones every now and then or you can try ebay.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm afraid to buy something that expensive from sites like that :/ Would you trust ebay?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Depends on the seller, always good to look at their feedback history.

eBay has always worked out fine for me, 2 out of the 3 you see in the photos are from eBay, when they arrive, take them apart, clean and shine, and take to your local guitar tech for a complete service and pro set-up, they come back like new! the risk is how good it looks in the photos, 'cos you can always make them work [technically] if you really want one I guess it's a risk i was willing to take.

@Feelgood; great pic, bass - perfect, and the Telecaaster is very interesting, headstock looks quite 'strat', nice thin 'skunk stripe' and original looking leopard pick guards. How old is it, how long have you had it? nice looking collection. Thanks for posting, we need more posts like this one please people!!!

@ osxandy,
Thanks, the Hohner is not a real one. I bought this copy on Ebay, but it didn't look right. So I made a one on one copy of prince's pickguard which really hepled a lot. Also the thin stripe I put on there myself.
The one eyd bass is the same story. Bought a Warwick Thumb 4 snare copy on Ebay. Stripped it, painted it white, and spraypainted the eye on it.
Oh, and both guitars play great too!
The Acoustic guitar is a Dean, which looks just as the Taylor, but for a fraction of the price.........
Cheers!

Very good guess osxandy!
Indeed I used some kind of -poly- material (can't remember the exact name). Not plexiglass, because you cannot drill a hole or it will break. I made a photocopy of the original pickguard and flipped it to the other side (mirrorside). I drew, and cut out simple tape for every spot that needs to be transparent (count them, haha!). Then I spraypainted the backside black. Let it dry and remove all the pieces of tape. Voila! It is practically a one-on-one copy Getting it all fit on the guitar was the hardest part. All in all, this is a good replica for a fair amount of money........
Cheers,
Doc.

This is not a Hohner, but it is Prince inspired. When Josh Dunham was playing bass for Prince, he used a Ritter Roya. Jens Ritter is a boutique luthier from Germany that hand builds a limited number of instruments each year. He was so impressed with Josh that he offered to buld him a custom design from the ground up. This is what they came up with. It is named "Cora", after Joshes wife, who was the drummer for Prince at the time. [Edited 11/15/11 18:00pm]
