Possible Video Recordings earlier than The Dirty Mind Club Tour Checkin' out the Original 7Ven's Documentary Vid , Morris said that b4 The Time , Prince hired him to video tape some of his concert performances , etc... Hmmmm Could this mean that there is video footage of the first concert for " For You " , the 1980 Prince tour ? and the Rick James tour in which P blew Rick's band out the water ? i'm hoping, cuz that was a funky show .

If I ever got any type of footage of "Crazy You" or "Bambi"......

What snippet are you talking about? Because I haven't seen it. Besides a lot of the time they showed footage from one era while talking about another. Formerly known as Parade @ HQ and formerly proud owner of www.paradetour.com

No it wasn't... Warner Bros. shot his first two gigs which was played mostly for suits... WB has this footage stashed away in their extremely large vault and even Prince doesn't have these...

In fairness all I saw was what looked like half decent re enactments of early rehearsals using a frosted glass effect

If Warner Bros. shot these first two gigs, it must be unintresting to them. If not, they would've put it out there in some kind of documentary or dvd form, or at least some snippets, no? It might also be that Prince is now legaly one step ahead concerning his previous live performings, so WB has no legal terms to use this footage...

From what I've heard (from Ostin and Waronker) the footage was watched numerous times and was extremely important and interesting for them (WB) to build "Prince" - The product...
WB has shitloads of footage of artists on their roster (Frank Zappa unsuccesfully faught with them for ownership of reels and reels of his footage that WB paid for and shot with their own people... If you shoot a gig of Prince, you own the footage and can release it for free, you can not sell it because you do not own the material performed, that way you have to pay Prince...)
And nowadays less and less WB people have any clue as to how much and what kind of footage they have locked away in their vault... Shit is deteriorating fast and eventually it will be much too late to even think about releasing any of it, which they won't simply because that would be like your employer releasing footage of you sitting at your desk working or a movie director releasing every single audition they hold...

Well it looked pretty much like the real thing to me...I didn't notice 'suits' in those shots...

What's also interesting, and is going to take years, is Warner's Sight of Sound project... it's boxes of promotional material, correspondence, photos, sheet music, concert posters, contracts, etc. This is all going to factor into possible reissue projects, websites, Blu Ray releases.
I'm sure there's some early fans who brought their movie cameras to some of the shows, but they would be silent footage. Also, there's a possibility that he may have been on a public access show performing. Who knows if it was recorded though. Videotape was expensive and reused.
I'm sure the more you ask the people who were there at the time, and the stories match up, the more likely there's stuff out there.
The Stones ( w/director Hal Ashby) might have filmed Prince, because they had a film crew for that tour.

Look again... You didn't notice any suits because there's wasn't any footage of the gigs in the doc... They only showed the well known pictures from the gig... The earliest footage they showed was from "American Bandstand"... Other footage was from the Paris "Dirty Mind" gig...

^ Did you see it?
They showed the footage when they talked about his first gig. I don't think editorially they could get away with showing footage other than what they were discussing - they were discussing his first few concerts..

I believe the audio from the City Nights boots was taken from video sources, so yes there should be footage of the Rick James show in Atlanta 1980.

funny. apparently some people already have seen older footage, or know more about it, or have access to it. yummy.
also, prince knows we have it and love it. prince's first love is music, second $ & blingbling, third women. can't blame him for being so sharp on the internet and older unreleased stuff. not to mention his contemporary believes. hope there'll ever be a day we can clean that vault, and see it all. the beatles' output and documents will be nothing compared to the purple ones i think. I saw it and it was a PHOTO.
Photographs are when they don't move - Movie footage is when they do move.
Hope I helped you out there with some basic English skills

They did several times. For example: talking about Gayle Chapman and showing the inner sleeve of Dirty Mind. As someone said before they only showed photos from the Capri Theatre gig. Formerly known as Parade @ HQ and formerly proud owner of www.paradetour.com

Very interesting stuff about WB owning these 2 first concerts tapes May I ask what is the source of that info? (Not that I doubt any one, just so I can be established as fact as well as outta curiousity).
Prince, being the control freak he always was, wouldn't own a home video copy of these 2 shows? I'd be very surprised. Now could he release them? Apparently not, but on the other hand I doubt he would want to.
A major issue with all these early (pre 1985 maybe?) films is that they are single-camera shots, and therefore even if they were remastered, their commercial value would be quite low, wouldn't it? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I'd like any clarification or information on the fact that there was a promotional video shot for "Bambi" and other early promotional videos that have never been released.
