Controversy about 'Extraloveable' Right now I played the "original", never released version of Extraloveable 28 times on my iTunes, but the new one got 72 spins 'till now - is this a sign of quality? Surely not. But what's the fuzz about which version is "better"? These are different versions of the song, and the only original version in terms of an official release is the cool tune from 2011. Personally I like the new version a lot more, because it sounds much more fun, playful and funky, whereas the bootleg feels more like a lengthy jam to me. But whatever: If I write a story and want to rewrite it, I have the right to do so everytime, and so with Prince. It's his song. Be it! Taking a risk is always an adventure.

Before this thread is locked or you get flamed, I'd just say that it's all about personal opinions, u r right in that regard. I haven't heard the new version of Extraloveable yet but I happen to prefer the 2009 version of In A Large Room With No Light over the 1986 version. So sue me. If both these songs were live renditions, no one would bother, but as soon as they get the "holy" studio version status, people make a fuss over it and cry that their (unreleased) classics have been slaughtered. This is ridiculous, any musician has a right to revisit his/her past catalogue and instead of complaining that they hate the new version, people just should be happy that they get TWO versions. Or complain every time an artist releases a re-arranged, live version of a song, and claim that songs should remain untouched after they've been recorded.

Yes, I think I'll get flamed soon - that's the usual practice of this page, isn't it? But it's great that I got your response first, and I agree totally. Be it! Taking a risk is always an adventure.

I am the opposite. I did not like the new one but LOVE the old one. The new one seems to just be missing everything to me. The old one has that classic Minneapolis funk sound. The new one sounds like a wantabe(kind of like the 20ten cd). He just cant recreate his own signature sound very good anymore(in my opinion)

For me it was the delivery and rap that brought it down. The music was fine...even if it was slower than usual...I was willing to look that over...but the vocals just don't sound fun like the 83 version. Hard not to compare when it is a remake. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

It's all a matter of personal taste but to me the old version is superior musically but the ommision of the rape lyric in the new version is a definate improvement.

Well Prince has just said that there are three versions of Extraloveable and they will all be released.
So any complaining about the quality of the rerecording will probably be pointless.
I love the new version | |

Well, Ndance has a point. This comes off as you thinking that your comments are extra special that it deserves its own thread. "Climb in my fur."

Co-sign. People should also be grateful they have had the chance to obtain so many unreleased tracks throughout Prince's career. Enjoy them and be happy because most will never see a proper release. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Yeah, people who like it cool, those who don't cool. No need to get all worked up if you don't like it. its not that serious. its just a song. i enjoy hearing him talk about the making of the original, somewhat short but its still interesting.

you don't think he could make a note for note identical version if he really wanted to? He certainly hasn't lost any of his ability to play instruments of any or his vocal range. If anything, he's better than ever at both. Just because he chooses to not repeat himself doesn't mean he can't.

I just listened to it and I love it. It's funky as hell, it's both sexy and romantic, everything that made me love Prince's music in the first place is here, and without comparing it to the original, I'd say it's a more mature approach to a wild thing from the 1999 era. No need for any debate here as far as I go, I'm just glad I got both versions! A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
