Gold Expirience liner notes- strange IF you read what John Bream wrote in the liner notes of the Gold album you didn't miss a line that goes like "After spending a few years as a foil, soft rock ballader Prince went back to what he does the best playing guitar. While John give a compliment to Prince's guitar playing he critics a period he didn't like and whats strange Prince agrees. If he didn't agree Prince would censor the line. Do you find it weird? That means Prince admits it's true he was a soft rock ballader and comic foil.

I wondered the same thing after reading that. Prince may agree to the point that the guitar had taken a back seat to other things for a couple of years. I doubt if he saw himself as a foil. I don't think I've ever heard Prince admit to a misstep musically.

Maybe Prince just gave Jim Walsh, (not Jon Bream) free speech, free experession.
I guess Prince is not censoring "every aspect of his life"?
btw: I really enjoy reading those liner notes to The Gold Experience, very well wriitten. You can tell Jim Walsh really enjoys Prince's new (at that time) music.
Excellent album, excellent tour.

He didn't care about that statement, because it was actually "Prince" who was being criticised and I guess he supported that idea and wanted to show that this new experience was fresh and raw, not to be compared with what came before (and he was damn right).
