1+1+1=3 ONA Live! version is terrible! I love the live set, and it makes a particularly brilliant single CD if edited, but I was so disappointed with this one track.
It's just poor. I was hoping to get into the groove but it just doesn't happen. Then there's what appears to be a very bad edit towards the end, which sounds shoddy. It's around about the time stuff seems to be a little out of tune. Can anyone confirm there is an edit in this track? It sounds like maybe 2 versions spliced together, but badly.

Yes, it is edited to exclude "Love Rollercoaster" as none of the cover songs appear on ONAL.

I actually like the track until he screams, "I'm talkin' Theocratic Order!" and the audience cheers like they know what he's talking about. Ugh.

TOTALLY! I think the Parliament-like keyboard drove the studio version; the live one is lame, lazy funk. When the fade-in beat kicks in and he says we're gonna get some excersize, you get ready, then...plop.
"Y'all ain't with me tonight!".. that's because 3/4 of the audience hasn't bought "Rainbow Children",& are gettin' increasingly confused as the evening goes on, P! "Where's 'Little Red Corvette'"? Plop. "I'm talkin' about Theocratic "Ordah", are you with me?" ..uh, no. You could have said just about anything, Prince, and gotten a cheer, so don't get too encouraged! Plop. I would rate "One Nite Alone Live" in my top 5 Prince albums-certainly has the best musicianship of all his albums! But there are SO MANY cringe-worthy moments, that I wouldn't play this album in front of anyone,: too embarassing! Like the leader/follower bit, the "re-becca" bit, the "crack Miss", "don't u know dead blood kills interferons", the "high" aspect... Yeah, he yelled one time "Ladies! Are you ready for the theocratic order!?" and I yelled back "NO!!!" but all the people were like, "Yeah!" and "WHOOO-HOOO!!" and screaming.

"Love Rollercoaster", "Pass the Peas", "La La La..." and particularly "Sing A Simple Song" would have put this cd set over the top! Listening to this album, I'm all too aware of their ommissions, and it hurts the energy of disc 1!

Sad. Yeah! ONAL is actually a fun album to talk back to, whenever he poses a goofy question, or says something out really out there !

But does anyone else think that around the edit the tuning is kinda dodgy. Prince's vocals don't sound so great on one part, though right now which part it is escapes me.

This is actually one of my favorite tracks on the cd, if only because I was in lakeland when it was recorded. And believe me, the crowd was feeling it . . . . the crowd on the floor was rowdy from the first note of rainbow children . . . and nobody sat down there until prince asked us to. He was trully in rare form that night . . . I wish there was a boot for the rest of ya . . . .
but anyway, say what cha will . . . I stand by that track. I went to three ona shows and I would say that I enjoyed this songs performance best in lakeland . . then in vegas . . . . also tops out on all the boots I've heard . . . especially other U.S. boots where he often slowed the entire start of the jam down to talk about the theocratic order in detail - think 2nd night in chicago . . . . other than that . . . I have to agree that there are a lot of cringe worthy moments . . . . can't stand the "crack kills" reference in HCUDCMA . . . .

I like the groove on the promo version of 1+1...
But it stops too soon. | |

I really like this version of 1+1+1=3. However I DO miss Love Rollercoaster.
The one and only complaint I have about ONAL is the omittance of the covers. I have the show from Chicago...and I think all of the covers were awesome...esp Sing A Simple Song & Pass the Peas (he dropped the popcorn! whats up?) Those songs brought a lot of energy to the performance.

***I was really hoping that the 1+1+1=3 version in the box set would of been the version that prince released months before, you remember, the one that has, :Xenophobia coming soon to a monitor near you." That one seemed more explosive and I love the opening of that version.***

I don't like the liver version of this song on anything I've heard.I was surprised it isn't funkier live.It sounds like he's rushing it and doesn't really want to get into the funk too deeply. That is funny because he wrote the song and he is so funky elsewheres. It does sorta' sound lazy.I thought they would sow that one up a bit live and play a deep rich 5 string bass groove, but he chose to sort of cheese it out and speed it up. In contrast,"All the Critics..." on Xenophobia is much funkier tha I thought it would be.I mean, the song hasalways beena favorite, but he made it a deeper funk.I like that . Something struck me the other day when i was listening to ONAL! Why on earth is The Work Pt1 missing? This was definately one of the highlights of the Rainbow Children for me and was pretty good in concerts! I would have swapped Family Name for The Work anyday!

NOT AGREE! This song is so energetic when played live! I've had this song in my head for days after the concerts, constantly smiling when thinking about how it made me feel. WHOOHOO still does make me smile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I really like the second half of the song after
the Theocratic order line. The horns and the guitar near the end. I wish that went on longer! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"
