the grand progression...with drums?

it seems as though i should get on princevault more often.

the only information i'd ever bothered to get into regarding 'the grand progression' were the notes on The Work from the databank...which told me it was for graffiti bridge, but got replaced by still would stand all time, which is probably the first time i hated prince.

more to the point, is the 1989 version with Michael B drums floating about?

also the whole 17 chords starting from the Ab being the grand progression.

and shit, the movie even sounds exciting - Camille and Ruthie Washington (Madonna). gotta read that script!

pardon my gushing over all this, but i've just never even thought to look into the GB early scripts or anything.

anyway, the grand progression with drums - anybody tell me anything about it? smile

peace x

No drums needed. The song is beautiful as it is. One of my favourite outtakes ever.

great song, it's a crime that swsat replaced this on gb (although my problem with swsat is the arrangement and production rather than the song itself). find some of the synths on it a bit unnecessary and cloying, but that's a minor gripe. i think it would be great as a piano only track with light embellishments on cymbals during the verse then...boom, big sonic drumbeat with strings for the chorus. damn, if only i was a multi-instrumentalist with his own recording studio!!

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

^^ i couldn't agree more. i can't imagine drums being anything but the worst thing ever. it's only curiosity that makes me want to hear it.

^i tend to agree with you, that the arrangement and production do SWSAT no favours, but, i mean, regardless of how it's done - it's got NOTHING on the grand progression in my eyes. it's one of my favourite prince tracks ever, generally, not in an outtake context!

i find it a bit strange, thinking that Prince's character that was to perform the song in this early script was Camille though...doesn't really have any Camille edge to it at all - lyrically or musically.

man i love this guy! so much stuff to always have me interested or going back, or talking, or coming here or wherever to read about. crazy! smile

Madonna herself didn't think much of it. She sait it was shit and asked him if he was retarded for wanting to make that movie. And she isn't the best judge of scripts.... lol
