Have any of you .......?

ever gotten into trouble for listening to certain Prince songs?

My mom is really getting on my nerves! She's goes "WHY do you like him! He's older than you are!!!" And I just don't reply. Is it so wrong to say that I wanna f*ck his brains out? Nope it isn't.

But anyway I started listening to P at the age of 7 and when I became 12 I was listening to him more and more and my mom didn't like it. So now I'm 14 and I know almost every one of P's "not so appropriate songs" HE'S FUCKING AWESOME AND I LOVE HIS MUSIC! So one day I was listening to Billy Jack Bitch and my mom walked into my room and was like "What the hell is he singing? What song is this?" Long story, short she took away my computer and my "Prince music" privlages.

Now I secretly listen to his music......And oh Lawd Jesus if she knew what Prince songs I was listening to today she would probably run me over with a car:) But I just wanted to know if u guyss have had any similar experiences

"And ladies make em' act like they know you are, was, and always will be.....pussy control" <See?

Wow you are pretty young, I didn't realize that. I just find that if I don't make things a big deal, others won't either. I was afraid people would criticize me at your age for being like that with MJ at home, so I tried to stay calm or like he's any other artist, but family saw through me lol But if you are talking about fu*cking his brains out and stuff like that right now, I can see why they are getting annoyed even though it's normal to have crushes at your age.

And I felt I had to make sure no one ever heard the naughty Janet songs and vowed to never bring my mom to a Janet concert. Would I do it now at my age if she wanted to come? OF COURSE!

Listening to music your parents find weird is what being a teenager is all about! Now go complete the set by smoking, getting blind drunk, shop lifting and getting pregnant!

yeahthat
It's been like this since Elvis Presley and Little Richard in the early days of rock & roll! Makes it all the more exciting. Maybe you should let your mother listen to "What Do U Want Me to Do" which is laidback in its music and the lyrics show that even the rebel of Dirty Mind can turn into a conservative.
But to answer your question, no, I'm from Holland, we're pretty open about sexuality. (could that be a reason why Prince is so popular here?) The Lovesexy cover shocked the US, but some folks here were like: is that it?

Well, I'm 41, but, I've been listening to Prince since I was 12. Some of the lyrics would have caused my mom to take away my Prince music, too... IF she ever heard it. So, she didn't. How hard is it to recognize which lyrics will offend/upset your parents, and, to not play those songs loud enough for them to hear? It's not hard. I did it.

Also, my daughter is 21. She's heard Prince's music all her life. My guess is, there are many Prince lyrics that would still surprise her... Because I always skipped those songs in her presence!

Of course, if you are telling everyone, including your mom, that you want to "BE" with Prince, the point of the lyrics is moot.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

No I never told them I want to BE with him! And I wasn't playing it loudly I was just on the computer when she walked in and Prince was singing the chorus to Billy Jack Bitch.

Thankss tho

I started liking Prince on & off starting in the 90's, when I was already 18 and ova...

But I've read stories like yours on here - parents ripping their Dirty Mind/Controversy posters off their walls, listening to "Lady Cab Driver" in secret, parents thinking they were gay (if they're guys) for buying Lovesexy, etc. You're not alone. And even as a adult, it can be a difficult thing liking Prince. So take heart.

P.S. I'm sure you know NouveauDance is joking - you be a good girl!

Not at all. I listen to whatever I want and I'll be damned if I get in trouble for that.

Hell, EVEN at your age. And that was just two-three years ago.

You don't have to, your face speaks for itself lol lol lol

I'm looking back at 10-15 years ago and would wonder back then how they knew I was obsessed though I was trying my best to keep it contained...maybe my face changed if his name came up or something. And if someone lent me an mj tape and I was excited to watch it, I wouldn't mention it but he would happen to come up later on, so I must have really looked a certain way lol lol My dad wasn't nice about him at all though he liked him during OTW and Thriller and would piss me off, but it amuses me how telling body language is and how transparent I must have been

I'd recommend playing your Mom a Prince song that she can relate to. There has to be one...

When I was your age (in the '80's), I was in a church youth group.... Needless to say, Prince was taboo.

So I played them Anna Stesia, God & Free...

They couldn't play me another "christian rock" song that was as cool as any of those....

My two older brothers grew up during the 70's Rock era... They gave me all kinds of crap for listening to Prince when I was a kid...

So, I played them "Bambi"... they got it.

Heck when i was 14 and jamming to prince my mom was too. We even went to the Musicology concert together, she was 60 and i was in my mid 30's.

When you have parents that object to certain lyrics or musicians you have to be sneaky. As far as prince's music is concerned you can use headphones and keep it on the down low or play your parents some rap with vulgar lyrics and say "It's prince or this ! " Your choice.

Prince's early lyrics are tame conpared to some of the stuff that's out there today. Prince was kinda dirty but he was never vulgar.

But you're such a hunk
So full of spunk,
Ill give you head
Til you're burning up
Head
Til you get enough
Head
Til you're love is red

Love you til you're dead
U know you're good, girl
I think you like to go down
U wouldn't have stopped
But i, I came on your wedding gown

Growing up, there were Millie Jackson, Eddie Murphy and Redd Foxx albums played at my house, so the answer to your question is "no". lol

Though many years later my mom turned off the cassette player in my car while "Controversy" played. She was offended when Prince recited the Lord's Prayer. Thought it was blasphemous for him to do so in that song.

My mum wasn't very impressed when she heard "..move you're big ass round this way so I can work on that zipper baby".

...10 years of Prince being played in that house and she picks up on THAT!!!
