The Love We Make
The best song Prince has ever recorded imo. Criminally underrated gem of a song.
There is a video online of him playing this song in 2010 and he adds guitar riffs to it, and honestly, it rivals Purple Rain.

I agree with this whole-heartedly! I absolutel love the live version of this song, and it always reminds me of Purple Rain. Especially because Prince plays both songs with so much passion. And the guitar ... WOW!!!!

He plays the violin part( album version) after the first verse entirely in guitar on stage, then adds a long solo at the end. It sounds mesmeric.

Right on. My spiritual mentor suggested that I put the lyrics to this on my altar...all I did was read the lyrics to her and she got the chills. Love God. [Edited 10/10/11 9:19am] ~honey is b-ing 1 with the 1~

It's definitely one of the songs I've been following (live) lately. The live renditions are pact with emotive and blistering guitar work. Love it!
Plus, didn't appreciate the album version until I saw how great it was live.

One of Prince's best songs. Nine times out of ten I would choose this song over Purple Rain.

This song has always been top notch in my book. I think if it landed on any other CD it would've gotten more attention from Prince. Emancipation was a good CD but it was mostly about his being free and Mayte. That song had nothing to do with either of those topics. I wish he'd played it at MSG this past winter(W2A shows) but we didn't get lucky. He did it on the west coast! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Always loved it, loved it even more after seeing the man play it live on June 25th in Montreal as an opening for the show. Very special moment.
Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

Y'know...I never really thought about it before...but this is my favorite song from Emancipation, hands down. I love it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It does kinda sneak up on you and before you know it, WHAM!!! You love it! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Very uplifting song. I love, love , love the 2010 live version. Something to listen to when you have a bad day and your spirit´s low. The 2010 live version is, IMO, much better than the album version. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Oh, it didn't sneak, really. I've always loved it. I just didn't realize it was my favorite. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So what about We Gets up ??? Sho nuff beats Love We´re Makin´s ass ANY GIVEN Day dont it? the beats kinda addictive too....kinda more upbeat then Love we makin...cant listen to syrupy ballads all day y´know... We gets up kinda like an anthem for the Bulls, too....gots to show some luv luv luv for Chicago y´know. So....do you likke Right back in your Arms? that beat is fat ....still is ..
You dont liek White Mansion? i cant stand courtin time though..the pianos kinda cheezy. I've dated outside of my race and I discovered that Good Pussy is Good Pussy and Good Booty is Good Booty regardless of ethnicity...I don't have a Fetish for only Big White Tits, Big White Butts or Phat White Pussy.(chancellor) wise man !

Certainly one of my very favourate Prince songs, and one that kicks major on stage.
As I'm not too fond of the title track to Emancipation, I tend to prefer to call that album 'The Love We Make', in some ways as good a title for that collection as the actual one

Such a beautiful spiritual song from a beautiful album. I remember not understanding what "put down the needle put down the spoon" meant...I joined the org to ask that haha. I really wish he'd released this as a single, and made a music video of it. I think this song really defines Prince. To me it's the best song of his.

I like this song but am I the only on that sees similarities between it and "Still Would Stand All Time?" For me they establish similar moods and feelings.

The "Emancipation" album has a lot of diamonds in the rough. [Edited 10/10/11 16:30pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I am glad that there are people who feel like I feel that this is his greatest song ever.
Put this on any of his 1 disc 10+ track albums that he has released and it would have gotten way more recognition. Like it has been mentioned, the thing with the Emancipation album was that there was so much songs, a mish mash of variety on 3 discs. This diamond kinda gets lost on disc 3.
The Love We Make> Purple Rain.

I seem to be in the minority here.
I never cared a lot for this rock-ballad. Maybe also because english isn't my first language, and therefore the lyrics don't seem to reach me like they do for others here.
But i am also not very impressed with the composition, the production is too bland for my taste and the vocal delivery too restrained.
