The song was written for the movie and is common knowledge. In fact, Prince was supposed to do the whole soundtrack, but something happened and he gave them 319 and Rippopgoesthezippa. __________________________________________________

Gina gershon and that chick from saved by the bell were in it .its about a stripper so yeah the 319 makes perfect sense since the first line of the song is " take off your clothes , 319 "

It was in the movie, but that doesn't exclude the title coming from it - the room number could've been in the script/rushes if Prince saw it early or something? I dunno which came first, I'm guessing the song, but one refers to the other obviously.
The scene with Ripopgodazippa is one of the most nauseatingly unerotic love scenes in movie history..... yurghkhh!
One of my fav movies
"I bought it at Ver-sase!"
BTW, anyone remember all that stuff about '319' coming from the Batman sessions, I think it might've been in an issue of Uptown or something - someone said that Cat heard it and said 'Oh yeah, I remember it from the Batman era' - something like that. Pretty sure it was settled as 100% bogus, but still a fun tidbit.

i believe on or two other prince songs appear as background music, as well

As for 319 being a Batman track, I believe that it is. Based on the horns and the guitar tones, that's what Prince was using during the late 88-89 era. We won't know the truth unless Prince tells us, but I truly think it is a Batman era song. __________________________________________________

The chorus of "Electric Chair" is very similar as the one on "319", so that might be the reason why that "rumour" has started.

Yeah, the synth horns definately sound of that era, it wouldn't be the first time Prince has revisited old tech/sounds a few years later though.
Never heard the similarity with Electric Chair, must give 'em a spin to listen out for that. I think the 1989 thing has all 100% been suspended to the Purple Rain 2LP and 'Better Place 2 Die' bin of debunked guff, but I always found it interesting.
edit: Also 3+19 = 21 (3 x 7)
