Thank you, Prince, for not selling any remastered box sets! On this purple day in November, I would just like to send a special personal note of thanks to Prince for not putting out any remastered deluxe editions of any of his music. Instead of paying big bucks for official box sets or deluxe editions, as I have done recently for James Brown, the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, and others, I've gotten to hear such gems as the First Avenue birthday concert, Box 'O' Chocolates, "The Bird" rehearsals, and so much else, for absolutely nothing! So, thanks Prince, and please keep the stream of music turned off so that I can spend money on other things and get your music for free. Peace!

It's hard to express how wonderful it is to hear amazing music I haven't heard before without paying one cent for it, and to realize that I don't feel guilty at all about the fact that I'm getting it for free--because there is no way to legally pay for it anyway.
I think I'm having an epiphany. All this time I thought Prince was jerking us around by not putting out any official box sets. Now I understand he was doing us a favor!
The only thing that could be any better is if Prince stops touring as well, so that my memory of that magic night when I saw him on the Lovesexy tour isn't spoiled by seeing a tired greatest hits show. Please, Prince, whatever you do, don't play a concert in my town. And definitely stay away from the Revolution reunion, because I want to hear Wendy sing those hits for a change!

Sad, sad person. I actually feel embarrassed for the original poster who's seeking attention. So embarrassing. Cringe worthy. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

I think you're misunderstanding the underlying message of the op. "Climb in my fur."

That said.............I never thought about it that way.

No one is seeking attention anymore than any other poster. I think the poster is trying to be funny and making a pretty good point, as well.
If someone is displeased with Prince, then expressing one's opinion on the matter is a cry for attention. Got it. It's good to know that my impressions of 99% of foolz on here remains unsoiled.

I agree.
People are too obsessed about remasters and boxsets that they have to go cry about it when they don't get one. Wah wah! Big deal.
Once again, Fuck The Remasters!

Amen, brother! All this time I've been complaining that the cow isn't for sale when I'm getting the milk for free. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Have fun drinking expired milk...
....while still complaining in a subtle yet unfunny way.
New material all the way.

Yeah... new material...
It's been sooo good, right? Stone-cold classics people will betalking about for YEARS to come. Spoiled milk sucks, but we're talking aged, fine wine. If you think Prince's old material is better compared to rotten milk, that's your opinion and you're welcome to it. That's a lonely place to be, for sure.

Not really. There are plenty on here who couldn't give less a fuck about a box set neither.

This. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's even more frustrating knowing that his first few albums have actually been remastered and yet remain unissued on CD.

Much ado about nothing. I'd much rather have him release new music then wasting precious time remastering his old songs. Which ones should he remaster? Which ones to leave out in the cold? I can hear it now: "Remaster the hits!" "No, remaster my favorite album!" "No, remaster Purple Rain!" "Daddy, I want an Oompa Loompa...I want an Oompa Loompa now!" Hundreds of released gems. So many unreleased songs yearning to be unleashed. Once again, no one's happy. Instead he moves on, rarely, if ever, looking back. Let me hear you say it... ! Yeah, who gives a shit about the musical legacy of one the greatest recording artists ever.
What are you calling yourself a prince fan for?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Because I can and because I am.
You missed the entire point I was making.
I'm not going to complain over a boxset therefore I'm being questioned as a fan of Prince.
Classy. | |

Good point. Because, obviously it's impossible to issue remastered CDs of your back catalog and outtakes while also putting out new material. Which explains why Paul McCartney hasn't released any new music since the early 1990s, when his first batch of remasters came out. All those recent albums with Paul's name on them must have been done by the guy who took his place after Paul died in a car crash in the 60s.
And, anyway, if Prince were going to put out remasters, he'd have to do all the work himself, because there is no one out there with any experience going through a vault and putting together a compilation. That's why Brian Wilson had to personally assemble all the 5 discs of bonus material on the new SMiLE box, rather than have it done by professional archivists. Anyway, the SMiLE project was a piece of cake--just putting together hundreds of scraps of music to complete the most famous unfinished album in pop music history, a task that literally drove its creator mad because he couldn't accomplish it. Putting together a few bonus tracks for a SOTT remaster would be a Herculean effort by comparison.
As to the question of which one(s) to do first--you're right! Obviously he wouldn't know where to start because each of his albums sold the exact same number of copies, and they are all tied for the #1 slot in every critic's poll. He'll never be able to make up his mind between Purple Rain and Rave. And there is no one in the music business who could offer him any guidance.

I think, as a general rule of thumb, someone who quotes Eric Cartman from South Park in his signature line (with images to match, no less), should not be taken that seriously. Although his authoritah should, of course, be respected. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
