To add to the list: Uptown is nice, And Cream live is AWSOME.

I really dig the rhythm guitar on the Prince version of Slave 2 The System.

"Controversy" by a landslide. That funk just won't quit.

LADY Cab Driver, during the break, where he's popping the strings, not just strumming... THAT is some bad ass playing.

This is similar to an earlier thread, discussing Prince's amazing playing, and several, if not MOST folks were talking about how he reinvented the funky rhythm guitar genre.

HOWEVER.

Consider "Get Down Tonight" by KC & the Sunshine Band. That's right, KC. The opening riff (and all the song, if you listen for it) has the spep-up recording of rhythm guitars, like in Erotic City.

Check out Nile Rogers' playing in ANY Chic song... they were doing the Freak before Prince WAS one.

Sly and the Family Stone - listen to the breakdown on Thankyoufalettinme - SHAZAM... some great stuff.

I ain't saying Prince isn't a master. He IS.

But give props where props are due - KC's guitar player was AMAZING - "Do Ya Wanna Go Party" - sounds a LOT like Prince learned his craft from that one song alone!!

Sorry for the rant - that other thread is long gone, and I wanted to bring this up here... not for any particular reason, other than I'm delirious from sleep deprivation and just vibing on myself.
