Who would you cast in Purple Rain?

If you had to recast the whole movie, who would you choose to play the Kid, Morris, Francis L., etc.

Interesting question. I would have definitely gotten Vanity to do the Apollonia role as it was originally planned. I dont think anyone could have done the Morris role other than Morris. It is difficult because these role were made for the actors and they are essentially playing themselves. Clarence Williams was the best peice of acting in the film as Kid's father but Olga was awful as the mom.

AGREED...

... but Olga was awful as the mom.

You think? All she had to do was cry & run from John L., her acting didn't bug me at all smile And her delivery of "You'rrre CRAAAZYYY!!!" was hilarious! lol

Very interesting question. Kinda makes me think this might be a great film to adapt to the stage, actually. Anyone agree?

Exactly -- it would make a great musical. The story is simple enough to adapt to the stage and it has awesome music, of course!

That would be great LOL. Change nothing except have Iron Mike in Prince's clothes. I just want to hear Mike say, "Gimme that! There on your boot." just once. I would be rolling...eyepoplol

The only thing I'd change would be to, yes, put Vanity back in the film.

Vanity 6 was the third part of Prince's "Triple-Threat" back then, and it would've captured that era better if she had been in the movie.

Plus, Vanity seemed to complement Prince perfectly!

I can see it now:

Billy(Don) says to the Kid (Iron Mike)
"Life my ass m*thafucka, this is a bidnesss and you ain't too far gone to see that yet!"
omg

You know, it just might work...
