Has Prince finally got bored?

Or is he saving all his money for the $$$$$ perfume payout?

There is ALOT of old and new footage-picture and audio, online at the mo.

Has he and his online sherriffs given up there escapades? Not that I'm complaining but it's curious.

It wasn't Prince who went after that stuff, in any case. It was the people who administer his publishing rights.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

^ Really? I thought it was Prince. With him not being taped by interviwers either, I just assumed it was a privacy/control thing.

"Genious" is not a word. Thank you, exhalted few, who are spelling correctly today. Incidentally, it should be, "Has Prince finally GOTTEN bored?".

What does this one thing have to do with the other one? I don't know, I was just thinking 'bout you muthas.

The shit sucks.

That's inaccurate.

Prince has a publishing deal with Universal. As seen here - http://www.umusicpub.com/...ntOptions=

There's some evidence to suggest that it was Universal who hired Web Sheriff, yes (the counter-suit filed by the mother whose baby was dancing to "Let's Go Crazy" did name Universal), but the fact remains that Universal only did that on Prince's explicit request.

They don't make a habit of getting their clients music pulled from YouTube, etc - it would be exceptionally bad for business. And I would imagine that Prince, at this point, now realizes that.

Wait how was it always assumed it was Prince? I don't know if I'm believing it especially if Prince doesn't control the publishing?

That depends on which country you live in...or which century.

"Although the British stopped using the past participle gotten about three hundred years ago, the American colonists and their descendants--especially in New England--still tend to use it." - http://wiki.answers.com/Q...ct_grammar

As for the topic at hand I believe that Prince, as always, is experimenting. First it was with maintaining strict control over his IP, now it's watching what happens if he relaxes the reigns. Who knows what he'll try next? wink

He does control it. He has a publishing deal. This means that, at some point, Universal gave him a boatload of cash in order to take a long term cut. (random example, a publishing company might give you $100k in order to take a 10% cut on your publishing revenue over a ten year period).

You still retain the ability to authorize, when, how, where your music is used. Or not used, in this case. Most artists will only get upset and cause a fuss if their work is used in something that's totally against their ideology.

I obviously don't know the ins and outs of the deal, but Prince did express himself that he wasn't a fan of YouTube, my understanding is that he felt Google were not offering enough royalties per play to the artist, and so he asked Universal to hire Web Sheriff to get his content pulled.

The liklihood of Universal randomly doing that, for one, or any, artist on their roster is approximately 0%. Like I said, incredibly bad for their business.

Why are some of you so angry???? I had noticed on certain websites (no adresses mentioned) that there was a sudden influx of footage which aren't normally there and are not censored. I was just curious if anybody had any thoughts or an inclination as to why!

Chill the hell out!!! confused

No. Not about that. Abot people being angry. Nobody is angry. But it appears that YOU are. That's the "what" regarding the projecting comment.

And there is no reason for it anyways. If there are purple goodies around, it's best not to report about them. That's it in a nutshell. If you did not think about that perspective, well then..

And for the most part, 99% of the3 onversation appears to be about rights and ownership anyways and who is responsible overall for the shut downs of material out there shrug

Except the artists still retain the rights to authorize their music and Universal doesnt do that with ANY other artists.

I was thinking the very thing this morning. I hope that he continues to allow the vids and fully agree an artist should be paid. Afterall isn't You Tube getting paid?

^^ I agree. Watching things online makes me want to go pull out the album for another listen or go out and buy it if I haven't.

Imo, Prince is such an amazing performer that he should be glad that people who haven't had a chance to see him live or are new fans and are trying to catch up, can see him in some way shape or form.

I totally disagree with the argument that it stops people paying for the official products as it just makes me become more of a fan and more willing to hand over my cash for a concert ticket or a new or old album.

The only reason I went and bought Purple rain, Under the Cherry moon, Sign o' the times and Graffiti bridge all on dvd, was because of the snippets I had seen online.

So all I can say is YAY excited when I catch any uncensored clips of Prince online.

They only administer his publishing rights. If Prince wouldn't have agreed with the action taken by websheriff he could have and would have stopped it.

It will all disappear (again) one of these days, and grow (again) for some time until there's lots of stuff (again), then one day it'll all have disappeared (again), etc.

Basically they can't control it all the time but they do a clean-up once in a while, so enjoy the stuff while it's still there, and also know that there are dozens of websites like Youtube and that, for some reason, the others ar left alone (some because they're in foreign countries such as China, some others I don't know why...)
