Yeah...and he was young, too! You act like he was some dirty old man back then diddling a teenager.
Bottom line: they were both adults. If either (or both) of them made bad choices, that's on them. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, she & Morris were both sharing Morris was hi a lot on the PR set, maybe that's why he was so good I don't think Prince knew or understood how bad his actions were affecting them both
the absence of Morris & Vanity during the PR era was why it wasn't as good as the 1999 era
some way some how I wish Sheila E and band were somehow in the movie

I don't see how he can be blamed for THEIR choices. I am pretty sure they were using drugs way b4 PR days. Vanity did hang out with Rick James b4 Prince, so that right there is clue #1, lol. Everyone wanted to be a star and they got that with help from Prince and with that stardom comes the pain. Some people can handle the so called sex, drugs, rock and roll life style and other's can't, but to say it was bcuz of P's actions is crazy in my humble opinion. Just sayin'

I think U are jumping way too far, I'm not blaming Prince for them doing coke But Prince's control issues, did have a big affect on his 'friend' Morris Day (Prince was very belittling to him openly) Prince fucked up the PR era Time. He made decisions that were probably to harsh and it affected the band chemistry... Morris was done after that. Years later Prince says "This is how the PT tour was supposed to be like when" when he had Morris/Jerome & Sheila "open" for him... Well it would have been if your actions didn't change things.
and people are people it doesn't matter what lifestyle a person lives, how you treat people still matters We all can and are influenced by people in our lives from family friends neighbors orgmembers etc
Vanity was physically/sexually abused in her younger years. Now whether PRince knew that or not doesn't matter. His behaviour had an adverse affect on her
I love Prince as far as fandome is concerned but he is still a person. And I look at actions and behaviour the same all across the board. I'm not going to justify his behaviour because he's Prince
I find it interesting almost that all these women that Prince was supposed to be in a relationship with, tended to turn to each other for emotional support Susan Jill Vanity were pretty tight, especially the 1st 2. He seemed to control Susannah & Sheila on a different level

No. I act like he was some ho with fame, money, and more experience than her who was trying to cheat on the girlfriend he already had at the time. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Great post and btw, if he indeed knew about her abuse and still treated her like he did then that makes him a bastard.
Prince doesn't have a good reputation when it comes to his treatment of girlfriends and peers. WE ALL KNOW THIS. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I beg 2 differ. Yes he is powerful but with care, life with Prince can be free from any serious ailments.

Everyone all of a sudden is on this 'Prince is a bastard(or any other derogatory name)' lately. Everyone in that camp were adults on the search for fame and fortune. some of them fell to the wayside of drugs and sketchy choices and others flourished and went on to have careers doing what they love most. If he's going to be held responsible for the bad then he's also responsible for the good. Frankly I don't think he's wholly responsible for either except in his own case. Vanity dated Rick James before Prince then moved on to Nikki Sixx after Prince, she was hardly dating angelic types who were going to soothe her soul and chase her demons away. Morris has/had his own issues and it didn't stop him from capitalizing on the fame PR gave him. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

You need to get over that, No one is on some "Prince is a bastard" whatever, Hotgritz speciifically stated if Prince knew about Vanity's abuse issues and still treated her the way he did (which was openly) then that's being a bastard. That would go for anyone. Just because Prince is Prince doesn't make him above morality.
Second I'm a huge Prince fan, but Prince did some shitty things to people on his rise to fame. Morris Day was Prince's FRIEND before either of them were anything. Prince's friend Morris Day and family took Prince in when he had no where to go. Anytime you belittle someone openly the way he did to Morris Day. You don't have to be that way to make it big, I doubt that made Prince a bigger star. Actually it could have made him and his protege world so much bigger if he did the opposite toward Vanity & Morris Day

Really I hadn't noticed all of the "positive comments" ever since the name changes and the O7 DVD. My whole view was that Prince may very well be an asshole but that this is not a new development, he's always been the way he is. It just seemed that nobody cared when he was churning out top ten hits and writing tracks for every other act. Purple Rain showed him as an asshole and control freak and everyone forgave him for playing a killer 3 song set. He never vocally(on screen) apologized for any of his behavior in the film. Fast forward 27 years later and he's being called out for his behavior from 2 to 3 decades ago and everything since then. He was the way he is when he met all of the proteges and that's probably why the followed him because despite his attitude and demeanor he was willing to be in control(seems like everyone else was doing coke and fucking like rabbits). All I'm saying is that if I didn't matter then why is it such a hot topic/sore spot now? Vanity has been decrying her former lifestyle for quite some time now and it never stirred up so much negativity/ill will towards Prince. Why now? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Vanity is possibly the only Prince protege (male or female), whose intreviews (old or new), I can actually & willingly watch. I haven't bought her book & I might never will, unless it was given 2 me as a gift or something but, in 1 of her intreviews later on in her life, she was talking about how she hated who she had become 2 the point that she rip up all her old Vanity days pictures.

...after Prince, she moved on to an on-again-off-again relationship with Nikki Sixx...where they enjoyed endless drug binges together. Even in Nikki's most fucked up state, he knew what a CRAZY chick she was....for more info, pick-up a copy of The Heroin Diaries....there's A LOT about Vanity in there!...even a few mentions of Prince!
Just think...if they would have married...she would be known as Vanity Sixx! Whenever you say that you can't, that's when you need to be trying.

I agree with this. I'd also take the 1999 era over the Purple Rain era as far as Prince and his proteges. 1999 is my favorite era of all anyway.

U R taking one period in his life dealing with 2 people and blowing it up to his whole career. If I'm talking about something specific don't go add to the mix what all the other org members are bitching about from 1990-2011
We are specifically talking about Vanity's relationship with Prince and Morris Day I don't think Prince is an asshole even though he does some stupid things to people
HonestMan13, if you can't deal with this topic you should skip over it, I don't think we are making a bigger deal of it than you think. You're heaping to much onto this

Vagina?!! Oh hells no..... x's 1,000 seriously, I have always wanted to know if Prince introduced Vanity to drugs? Or if she was on cocaine when he met her. Nikki six introduced her to drugs. Prince wasn't really into that. Though he sang about it a few times, he never did drugs. Am I following here? Prince never apologized on screen for any of his behavior in the film? Prince can't act, but it being a film isn't a clue? How many other film stars don't apologize for their behavior on screen?

October 15, 1984 (People Magazine, Vol. 22, No.16) Her Romance with Prince Hit the Rocks, but Vanity's Singing Career Is Going Grrr-EatOne critic, after viewing her pelvic thrust-and-parry stage moves, accused her of "the most uninhibited display of aggressive female sexuality since Tina Turner." It is a charge to which Vanity happily pleads guilty—with an explanation. Says the former Denise Matthews: "I'm a real romantic. I've never been to bed with a man I wasn't in love with." And what of the look that surely attracts a lot of men she doesn't love? "I've had a mailman call me on the pay phone in a restaurant and tell me he wants me," the singer explains. "What's the big deal?"
For Vanity, 25, the only big deals that count these days are the kind you sign on the dotted line. Now amiably estranged from her ex-lover and former Svengali, the protean Prince, she has recently emerged with her first solo LP, Wild Animal, and its predictably suggestive single, Pretty Mess. The album comes from Motown, which also produced Vanity's first big-budget film, The Last Dragon, a martial arts fantasy-romance due to be released next March. The movie seems as much a consolation prize as a career maker, however. Back in Minneapolis Vanity had helped Prince script Purple Rain and had been slated to play the female lead, a role based in part on her own life story. But before the cameras rolled, so too had Vanity—off to California and a solo career. "I needed one person to love me, and he needed more," she says of Prince, conceding that she hasn't even seen Purple Rain, because "it would bring back old memories, and I don't want to cry." The illegitimate child of a black father and a white mother, Vanity had at first hoped that modeling would loft her out of her native Niagara Falls, Ontario. On her own at 16, she scratched for modeling assignments, made several low-budget movies (including Terror Train with then queen-of-the-Bs Jamie Lee Curtis) and finally turned up alone and despondent at the 1980 American Music Awards show in L.A. There she met Prince, who called her at 3 a.m. The couple dated for several months, and Prince, learning that she could sing, eventually invited her to Minneapolis to front a racy all-girl group he was forming. "He wanted me to call myself Vagina. He said people would know me nationwide," she discloses with a smile. "I said, 'No kidding.' " They settled on Vanity, and Vanity 6, clad in scanty camisoles and singing tunes like Drive Me Wild and Nasty Girls, soon cracked the black Top 10. Last year, when the Purple Rain crowd threw Vanity a farewell party at the now-famous First Avenue Club in Minneapolis, Prince did not attend. Still, "everything has worked out great," insists Vanity, who now sports a new Jaguar XJS, a new boyfriend (recent college grad Robbie Bruce) and a pile of new scripts to consider. With her old mentor now readying a tour to hype his Purple Rain LP, Vanity is concentrating on a reign of her own! "I never thought, 'Oh God, I'm in Prince's shadow,' " she says firmly. "He'd been performing for years and he was my teacher. I miss his humor. I always felt we'd be like Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor over the years. I can honestly say I love the kid." "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

^ Yeah, I can remember it being said that Prince was possessive of his women. He wants the women to be home bodies and just chill at home watching videos, etc while he was out rehearsing with the band, or doing research by going out to the clubs to check out the lastest vibe etc.
The problem is... Prince's women are not the homebody types. They are/were drop dead gorgeous women who had their own craving for attention and excitement. So there is the conflict.
I read that Vanity loudly protested about the double standard... you go out and I stay at home until you are ready to hang with me.
Their fights wore down the passion in their relationship quickly. The money issue with starring in PR was the straw that broke the camel's back.
I also read about Vanity's hookup with the producer of PR movie. If it was true, imagine this guy pumping sunshine up Vanity's azz and encouraging her to bounce before PR was release. I thought I read that some of Vanity's scenes in PR were already filmed and then had to be redone when they found Apollonia.
