It had been a few years since I'd foolishly watched 3 Chains O' Gold the last time, and my fiancee had never seen that shitty lump of shitty shit, so I popped the tape into Ye Olde VCR a few nights ago...and GODDAMN is that shit just AWFUL!!!

Here is a short list of things I'd rather do than watch that bullshit again:

• Eat my own poop (see Subject)
  
• Have TC Ellis "rap" a toast at my wedding
  
• Wear an outfit like Prince has on Rave's cover
  
• Make sweet monkey-love to John Ashcroft
  
• Finance a sequel to Kangaroo Jack out of my own pocket
  
• See how many 150-watt light bulbs can fit into my ass at once
  
• Turn on the above-mentioned light bulbs
  
• Spend a nice, romantic, secluded weekend with Bart
  
• Fuck a cheese-grater
  
• Share buttered popcorn with Pee-Wee Herman
  
• Get a haircut like those sported by the Game Boyz
  
• Name all of my children Kirky J., even the girls
  
• Move to Texas
  
• Move to Georgia
  
• Hell, move anywhere in the South
  

so i shouldn't even ask if it's worse than graffiti bridge...

I agree, 3 Chains O' Gold provides several reasons not to experiment with drugs (especially crack)...but what's wrong with Georgia? Or the South for that matter? I've lived in the South my entire life and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else...hmm except maybe Minnesota...it's just so damned CLEAN...they even have wet naps in the Convenience Stores, but it's also cold as hell

Yea, the video was kinda goofie. Prince as usual mumbles a bit but doesn't say anything. And the story makes no sense, just like the album lyric/storyline/shitty soap opera.

Graffiti Bridge was just awful. Prince could have done a great story about the spiritual signifigance of music, but boy did the little maggot fuck up.

No man, 3 Chains is DEEP! I mean, what was all that mysterious stuff when Prince draws a symbol at the end!? What's he gonna do? What's the Japanese connection? Who killed Mayte's dad? We need to be told!!

It is really very bad. The worst thing you can do is watch this video in the vicinity of a non Prince fan... chances are you'll just destroy any chance of ever convincing him or her that Prince isn't a total twat.

Hey,I like the 'Three Chains O Gold' film

It's really just a video compilation from the 'Love Symbol' CD and these videos are great.I especially like the "Love 2 The 9s","The Continental" and the "7" videos.It's cool the way he ties them all together,trying to make some sense of the whole "rock soap opera".

Admittedly,the storyline is sketchy at best (Prince has never been the greatest storyteller,as 'Graffiti Bridge' proved) but the musical performances are superb.And it's also a treat seeing the sexy Troy Beyer in a few scenes.

My only gripe with this project is,why did it take so long to come out? It was released in 1994,TWO YEARS after the 'Love Symbol' album came out! It should have been released just in time for Christmas 1992,around the same time that the album came out.It could have been a really effective marketing/promotional tool for the album,as well as the 'Act 1' tour.

the videos were shot nicely, but the hokey storyline ruins it, and the outfits made me cringe.

i think it would have fared better simply as a collection of seperate videos.

I don't think it's so bad...

I think "3 Chains O' Gold" is right up there with the other guilty pleasures P's contributed to our video collections... Of COURSE it's not brilliantly acted, or even well-written (storyline-wise), but I happen to love the o(+> album and think it was fairly underrated.

Some of the visuals in the "film" were pretty, but the storyline overall was SO hokey!

I think some of the only highlights that made it worth watching were:

*The part when P watches the videotape of Mayte's childhood appearance on "That's Incredible!"... I remembered hearing about that appearance somewhere, so it was kinda cool to actually see it.

*A lot of the live footage during "The Maxx" was pretty entertaining...gave a good sense of the vibe of seeing that tour live.

*The dialogue between the NPG members sitting around the poker table just before "Sexy MF" ... "Bucket of chicken hat!"

*The fact that there was actually an attempt at a video for "Love 2 the 9s"... I love that song, and the video wasn't bad, but it coulda been done much better.

*The footage of Mayte dancing around that fire just before she collapses is really pretty.

My major grievance with "3CO'G" (besides that embarrassing-to-watch, horrible storyline) is that a couple of choice tracks from the o(+> album were completely ignored and probably woulda made for some cool videos:

"And God Created Woman", "Arrogance" (even though I usually hate it when P tries to rap..), "The Continental"... I'm sure some good video concepts could've been spawned for those songs, and still fit into the concept of that horrid plotline.


...And I'll be shocked as hell if I hear any of the guys complaining about the scene with the naked chicks in the swimming pool with Mayte!
