where was the gig? was it in 88 at an after gig?

It was played in part on the Livesexy VHS (Dortmund, Sept 9, 1988), so it's available on many boots, both audio and video. That's the only time I know of that Take This Beat was captured live on tape.

I am pretty sure there is a least one boot from an '88 aftershow with "Take This Beat".

The first Los Angeles show was on the 6th November, with the aftershow, as tracklisted above, circulating.

The Aftershow was at the Palace, Reseda.

'Take This Beat' is played at a much faster tempo and the recording is about 10 minutes long.

The second LA show on the 7th also circulates, including 'Take This Beat'

He then played Oakland on the 10th and 11th with the aftershow at the Warfield Theatre in between.

Recordings of all of these latter shows circulate and they all feature performances of 'Take This Beat'. In concert it was played as the extended part of 'I Wish U Heaven'. In the Warfield aftershow, it segues out of 'I'll Take You There'.

But there are other performances of the song that also circulate - Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in the US, for example.

He played it in Hartford, CT. back at the old Civic Center when I saw him in '88. I was blown away because it was a new song for me and the single had yet to drop. The bass was thumping and Prince was humping, screaming and all that good stuff. Definitely jammin'.

I saw the first 18 shows of the Lovesexy Tour in the US and yeah that and I Wish U Heaven was the hightlight of the show most nights. You could see he was just waiting for it and really enjoyed it.

Yes it's a great song, I remember 10/18/88 & it was performed with Patti LaBelle & to have witnessed it, is one of the many memories that I will always cherish!

Yes! I was also at 1988-10-18 in Philadelphia and it was excellent! I do believe I have that one on the HD.
