Happy Anniversary 1999 ... !!! Today is the 29th Anniversary of 1999 which was released:
October 27th
Are there any enthusiast of P's that were able to acquire this album when it first came out?
How do you feel now after all these years being a enthusiast of Prince's?
For some of us this was our first experince of P's MPLSoUND.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't start FEELING Prince until Emancipation Era in 1996
Let's discuss it shall we ... Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Yep. Got it when it first came out. 'Cause I'm old like dinosaur balls.
1999 still gets regular rotation. Classic Prince. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

1999 was my first ever Prince album. It has certainly aged well...still sounds as fresh as the first day I listened to it.
IMO 1999 is the weakest track on it Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

If it's any consolation, I bought it on release ... and I'm definitely older than you.
(And, you're spot on ... classic) ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Greatest album ever. After getting The excellent Dirty Mind and Controversy 180 gram vinyl reissues I'm currently waiting on delivery of 1999. Hope it sounds as good as the other two.

I'd listened to his recent albums and his NPG albums first and then got to listen to this album. It's one of his albums that I was able to fall in love with some of the songs right away(DMSR, International Lover, Little Red Corvet, Free, and Delirious), and others took a while to grow on me. And I understand why some people say some tracks sound too similar to each other. They don't really have very distinctive sound...And I don't think the sequencing was very great either.

I was in the cassette days, so i First got PR, then 1999 and so on...However, when I got my first CD player, 1999 was the first CD I bought. In Hindsight, I had this compulsion to get it on CD, dunno why... If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Good thing we have the vinyl, so we can still read the liner notes. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Man, I feel old. I had it on album and cassette. I still remember the first time I heard "1999" on the radio. I was already into Prince, but "1999" sounded so evolved I almost couldn't believe it was by the same dude that wrote Dirty Mind and Controversy. It was the first song for me that actually felt like or I believed that a party was actually occurring on record or coming from my mom's car radio. It sounded so much like a good time that a couple months passed before I realized the darkness of the lyrics.

I bought the CD when it first came out, LRC is probably still my all-time favorite Prince song.
Great, great music BUT I have always been pissed that they took DMSR off that original CD release.
Would much rather have lost Lady Cab Driver and kept DMSR. "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

We are not celebrating the number "29," we are celebrating the release of an album.

1999 is still 1 of the best CD/Albums from any artist . It will be 30 yrs next yr 2012. I loved most of the jams on here but at the time I was real young, a kid matter of fact so I did not understand a lot of the songs , XXXample Little Red Corvette was a meta4 hell I didnt even know what a meta4 was much less the real meaning 2 1 of the hottest songs ever.TROJANS SOME OF THEM USED she was a nasty freak!!Lol 1999 was a cool ass8 song about the world ending still 2 this day I bumps 1999. The jams that were not released as singles were real hot 2 DMSR, AUTO-Matic and Lady cab driver and International Lover were just on point . This of course was just a taste of what was about 2 CUM next with Purple Rain.....We have not seen Prince this Funky since those days he has flashes but that's it. As 4 1999 a str8 up masterpiece . Hell let me go bump that in my ride real quick. Damn Prince come back!!
