On his Stick Like Glue rap, I thought he said, "I'm just a friend of your mother's."

Of course he says, "I'm just in front of them others."

That is just the funniest...... Can you just imagine Prince singing the line "I'm just a friend of your mothers" Too funny.

In the album version of I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, I'd swear that Prince says, "I asked me if she wanted to dance". Does anybody else hear it that way?

But doesn't he say: "She asked me if I wanted to dance"?

"I Love U In Me" - "When we're makin' love it's like surgery", kind of a stupid lyric as he was trying to come up with a rhyme. Great song otherwise, IMHO.

Why is it "stupid" and what makes you think he was "just trying to come up with a rhyme"?

Its a type of metaphor, a simile, and the word "surgery" is very specifically used - you're supposed to interpret what he is saying, not discard it as someone struggling to rhyme with the word "me", which is incredibly easy to rhyme!

Dewrede suggested "Symphony", but that would invoke an entirely different idea to the one Prince is conveying. Surgery is precise, clinical, but also invasive and penetrating - and the use of such an apparently unrelated word is deliberately disarming, demanding attention.

I totally agree. Great lyrics!

"...it's like surgery". that has to be one of his best lines ever. as said previously he could have used symphony, he could have used ecstasy..far from being a lazy throwaway lyric, it's precise and clinical and is a great simile for dipping the wick.

don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

These kinds of "lyric screwups" are called mondegreens.

By the way, what does he mean by the lyric in "Laydown" - "if your girlfriend didn't have the surgery, maybe she could see what I see"? I don't get it.

Its very open to interpretation - to me, the message he is trying to convey is that people who are too focused on themselves and superficial things like artificially changing yourself to make you more appealing than you are are missing the big picture.

Its a bit of a double-entendre, as with many Prince phrases of this type. If you were to take the image as almost literal, the first thing most people think of when it comes to female surgery is breast enhancement. So, the joke is, if you're girlfriend hadn't made her tits so massive that she can't see past them, she would be able to literally see what I see. Which is pretty funny. Of course, the real meaning he is conveying, is as I said above. Its a metaphor, again and others may have different views, but that's how I call it.

Actually no, it's "I asked her if she wanted to dance". But next time you have this song on, listen closely to that line - it really sounds like what I wrote.

Or, I've been sniffing glue since 1987. One or the other. lol
