Letitgo - Sherm Stick Edit Just heard this remix for the first time, and while I think it's really interesting it sounds like a 100% Dorothy Parker remix, I knew it was sampled but I though it was mixed in with the song, but actually I can't hear any trace of Letitgo at all - though there is extra guitar work on there.
What's everyone elses thoughts on this, am I missing something?
Gah - just double checked The Vault website and realised I've got '(-) Sherm Stick Edit' which is an instrumental, and what I'm after is 'Sherm Stick Edit', which isn't. Flippin' 'eck - how annoying. And nothing on youtube either! [Edited 10/27/11 8:00am]

yeah I like it, and like you, it does sound a lot like it is just a Dorothy Parker remix, bit harsh too, wish he had done a full on soft extended jazz version of Dorothy Parker instead of this really... The drum pattern from DP is so cool.

Love this song. I wonder how known it is. I guess it must be, but I seldom hear people about it. I got some weird vinyl white sleeve version of these remixes. The sherm stick mix is by far my fave.
Did anybody hear about the reason for the name of this mix. Something to the effect that Prince wanted someone to stay on at the Park? This girl (Sherman) stick to the park... Eh...

Yeah I like it. The other Letitgo remixes are not too shabby either.

A Sherm Stick is a cigarrette or joint laced with PCP. Smoke too much and you'll be sitting in the pigeon coop. I'm just saying...

Who created the remix with the super cool bass line, dorothy parker slowed down sample and the incredible guitar line?
Thanks,

Been listening to this maxi single quite a bit these last few weeks. Some nice mixes. I also like the rap by "young soldier of time", one of the very few times I actually enjoy a guest rapper on a prince track. This and the "space" maxi single were both great for the remixes they had. The space maxi is even better because it has that "universal love remix" which is almost a completely new song and then there's that oh so beautiful acoustic version. Because these two maxi's are so good they also make me sad whenever I listen to them since they make me wish that the "come" maxi single had been released. I can only imagine a maxi with 7 different versions of that song. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

This is a great remix, bought it in 1994 after a visit to the blood bank to donate plasma for $15. I bought a lot of music in college from selling my body lol. J Sw!ft of The Pharcyde did the Sherm Stick remix. J later landed in rehab, maybe after smoking too many sherm sticks. Glad people are discovering this remix, it's been a staple on many a mix tape through the years. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

So I'm guessing the proper Sherm Stick edit has vocals, and the (-) Sherm Stick I have is basically an instrumental? I think it's great but really wanted vocals!

listening to these 90s singles again, I'm hoping that if and when prince hits the road again in the future he's gonna revise more of this material for his shows.
there's so much strong material there. he performed those songs so well when he premiered them at the glam slam clubs. stuff like "interactive", "letitgo" and "space", "gold", "race" etc etc.
seeing him bring back "gold" recently was one of my personal highlights of the tour.
one another note, i still don't really understand how the "letitgo" and "space" singles didn't do better on the charts and radio. back in a time when downloads were still quite unheard of and people were still buying singles.
both singles were chuck full of extra material, clocking in at over 30 minutes, with many radio friendly remixes and edits.
i get that it was a confusing period for fans and non fans alike, but that doesn't take away from the fact that these were great songs on well executed maxi's, coming hot off the succes of "the most beautiful girl in the world".
although i'm not one for conspiracy theories and i do understand that prince is not innocent in all this (refusing to promote anything really well during that era), but one is tempted to start thinking that the industry was having some major beef with prince and keeping him back at this point.

You could be right - I remember when I first heard Letitgo and I was surprised when I saw it barely made Top 40, I remember thinking 'For his rubbish rnb phase this is actually really good!'. Same with Space, over time I really think highly of the Come album now.

you're right. i tend to do the same thing with everyone except prince. remixes leave me stone cold most of the time. bsides tho, i just have to have, lol.
perhaps that's why the "gold" single did slightly better, altho it only had 2 or 3 songs, but it had a non album bside.

Just spotted something on princevault there (love this site btw). They list the Gerald B edit with a run-time of 5:02 on the US promo cd. Now I have the standard ep and mine only clocks in at 4:36. Does anyone have this cd to confirm that a longer version exists? I know it could just be a typo but princevault are pretty spot on with stuff like this and the completist in me kinda needs to know

As Kat William's would say, "This one right HERE, this one right HERE is my favorite!"
I love this Sherm Stick edit... "A united state of mind will never be divided

I wonder who had the idea to sample Grand Funk Railroad in this version? Wasn't Prince supposedly a fan?

There are remixes for Letitgo and Space both got released on CD. There are also alternate (released and unreleased) versions of Come, Dark, Race, Loose & Pheromone. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I don't know about the "Sherm Stick Edit," but the "Caviar Radio Edit," the "Cavi' Street Edit" and the "Cavi' Instrumental" are all quite yummy.
