Can I add How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? OK. Just did. razz

Oh, and how could I have forgotten all of those Family tracks? Pure melodic bliss - some of his finest work. Hellzapoppin', Bobby Z's track even has a killer melody on that LP.

I gotta go with "4ever in My Life".... Simply because the melody is everything. There really isn't even any backing music.

I did too! Specially Desire. In my opinion, 1985 was the best year for Prince's melodic achievements, with Around The World In A Day and The Family.

some great Prince songs don't really have melodies... to me a melody is a sequence of different notes that changes with each measure forming a dramatic progression (sort of like an abstract narrative).

Many Prince songs have a lot of repetition on a single note with the lead vocal, with nice chords to support, and then nice funky production on the beat. It's the production that implies harmony or catchy texture in those cases.

Like Little Red Corvette. Play the lead vocal line on a keyboard, your finger won't travel too much. Not too much melody going on.

Or Kiss.

or

Sign O' the Times.

That one really doesn't have much melody!

But something like Under the Cherry Moon/Question of U has a full on melody.

I totally agree!

My favourite melody would have to be Under The Cherry Moon - so pretty!
