because I'm lazy....a purple rain question I'm thinking about half the soundtrack album/cd of PR was recorded live..
Nikki...? Computer Blue? Baby I'm a (star) Purple Rain (?) I would die 4 u (?)
not sure about Lets go crazy, or the beautiful ones...
When doves cry, I do know wasn't recorded as a live performance...

Correct. Though other songs for the LP were recorded live on the same night, only those three were used as the basis for the album tracks. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

After listening to the 83 show and the album versions of Die 4 U, Baby, and P Rain, It sounds more like a studio recording with tiny bits of the live recording thrown in. I'd say it is 80% studio, and 20% of the live recording. The lyrics, vocals, and vocal effects are different, the drums are different, and several other things I can't think of right now are different. | |

"The album was mostly recorded between August, 1983, and March, 1984, although Baby I'm A Star had first been recorded in 1981.
The last three songs on the album, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star and Purple Rain, were recorded live at the 3 August, 1983, First Avenue, Minneapolis, MN, USAshow, although overdubs and edits took place later.
This marked the first time Prince had included live recordings on an album or on any release" | |
