Hey U people from the UK, please explain to an quite irritated Frenchi why Purple Rain is the most downloaded song with your itunes-store this week? - Did I miss something???

Apart from that I think it is kind of funny, now that the Original 7ven and Fdeluxe make some money with their new albums (hopefully), Prince is getting paid for his oldies ....

Probably something to do with X factor i would guess, maybe they got some wannabe to sing it?!

I can't watch such rubbish so I can't say for sure....!

More frustrating than the mutilation of PR and other worthy songs on this eXcuse for entertainment, is that Prince probably wont see a dime from all these sales...In hindsight, he was dead right to go to war with Warner Bros. over his masters

I appreciating the fact that it is the most downloaded song rather than being disapointed as to why it happened.

Yes, if some kick-ass Prince music reaches the ears of some of those folks, I'd call it a win, no matter how it happened.

Thanks ... but when I go through the above link and select R&B it still doesn't show in the R&B / Soul top 10 for the week on UK iTunes.

Can you please post the link that you are using that shows it is in a UK top 10 (of any sort)?

I suspect, if this (or a similar site) is the source for the thread, then it is showing latest download information - perhaps covering only 24 hours rather than a full week - sourced from iTunes.

Who knows? The site doesn't provide that level of information.

If true, it would surely only be prompted by the X Factor performance.

Don't get it twisted, P will definitely get paid. He also get paid from X-Factor for the song.

Orger 'gossipgirl' mentioned Mischa B sang it on the

UK X-Factor in this thread. Maybe that's the reason. When Stacy Francis sang it on the U.S. X-factor, folks said it was trending on Twitter. I think it's cool that more than 20 years after the song came out, it became a popular classic and still drawing people to purchase it.

According to the link, it is Prince's version which is being downloaded and charting and, if that is the case, it is likely because the song was performed by one of the contestants on the UK version of X Factor.
