When doves cry: a first step-up from the simple 'live-performances recorded in the studio' that were the video's for the singles from Controversy and 1999.

Raspberry Beret: colourfull, whimsical, definitely suiting the tune.

America: in its form its 'just' a recorded live-perfomance, but one with such energy and joyfullness (so the video itself owes a lot to the musical performance).

Kiss: simple but effective. Stylish and also rather timeless in it's stripped down delivery and choreography.

Girls and Boys: great black-and-white photography. The 1920's french club environment really suits the song.

Sign of the Times: It seems many people don't like this video now, but for its time it was groundbreaking. And the emphasis on the lyrics, focus on what this song is about. The sober use of graphics also 'echoes' the skeletal structure of the music.

I could never take the place of your man: see 'America'.

Batdance / partyman: it seems Prince did use a bigger budget then usually, and this time its pays off. Cartoonesque with a bit of dark humour thrown in.

Cream: slick, polished, but with a solid execution.

Musicology: again a bigger budget is paying off. I don't really like the tap-dancing overdubs, but otherwise this video has a great retro-vibe.

Cinnamon girl: original in its art-direction / style, shame he did use such a lousy song for it.

She wasn't ugly-but she wasn't model material. So the veil is used to disguise the fact that woman dancing is not the same woman for the face close ups. Who's idea-probably the director? Prince? Both?

That was paisley park, everyone in the video had some similitude of style that reflected the Prince(s) we knew from 4U-ATWIAD
