A nice jam, especially because of the horn-arrangements. On a basic level its yet another take on James Brown-type of funk, but the use of horns reminds me of Cuban music (which i love).
The lyrics are dealing with JW-crap again, but on a musical level i like it more then most songs on 20ten or MPLsound.

First of, where do you see anything to do with JW?
Second, It's very offencive to call a religion crap.

Which boat do you think he's inviting you onto?

Party boat? Shit, I don't know.
I hate when people get uptight about religious lyrics though, especially when it's not straight forward.

I think he's trying to sell it as a party boat, but clearly he's talking about some kind of 'salvation' vessel.
I know what you mean - if anyone else sang this, you wouldn't think it to be JW or even necessarily religious - but the fact is that he is a Witness and has put their teachings into many of his songs, so it does cause a reaction in a lot of fans who take issue with that (either with the religion itself or with him seemingly forcing it onto others through his lyrics) to the extent that when you have a song like GOTB come along, which is far more subtle, you get a reaction like we see above.
All the way back to TRC, I just tend to interpret the so-called 'preachy' songs the way they relate to my spiritual philosophies, or else I just enjoy the music.
Occasionally things grate on me if I'm in the wrong mood (too many in-depth discussions here about TRC has tainted its appeal at times) but for the most part, I think people can choose whether or not to let it bother them.
Incidently, Riverman didn't seem too bothered - I gather he still likes the song. From what I can tell the "JW-crap" line was just a throw-away comment. Disrespectful? Well, yes, but no moreso than so much around here.
Overall, the less you worry about other people's opinions (about you, the music you like, the musicians you admire, their religious beliefs, etc...) the less stress you have in your life...
...and the easier it is to play on a site like this

I have no problem with other people's opinions. It's just my way of expressing my own.
It isn't stressful at all.

Offensive to who? I'm not offended in the slightest. To be offended by another over something as illogical as a superstitious belief speaks volumes about religion in my eyes. No offence.

In this respect, Get on the Boat is a bit like Curtis Mayfields People Get Ready, where Curtis invites the listener to get on a train to better place. Ain't no room for the hopeless sinner... Both the train and the boat are obviously metaphors for going on the road to a more spiritual lifestyle. Prince has played People Get Ready live, so he must love the song (just like me). It's just that JWs have a bad reputation, so he'll always be critisized for that. Nobody blamed him for singing The Cross...

It is banging live! When he performed it at the Superbowl Press Conference, it really took the song to another level for me! HOWEVER, on 3121 it lacks flow for me. I can listen to it without skipping through it, so it is 'ALRIGHT' to listen to...but it can get really annoying towards the end with all the sounds effects. Haha If he added more guitar on it as he did 'live' it would be fantastic! IMO.
It is a cool track though! I love the 'Latin' vibe to it! I can do a couple of head bumps to it. Haha. It's Button Therapy, Baby!

dreadful song Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

It's only said in jest As are the vast majority of my replies to anyone. It's only pop music after all. The trouble in Greece is far more worthy of serious discussion at the moment. Fucking Greeks. Tax evaders at best. Pervs at worst.
