It sounds to me like "Purple Music" initiated this, wanted to make it happen and managed to make a good (and presumably lucrative) enough pitch to Prince in order to get the go ahead - I'd be very surprised if it was Prince's idea.

Perhaps the concept appeals to Prince because it requires very little effort and probably no promotion on his part, yet potentially introduces (or re-introduces) his music to a demographic that's possibly rarely exposed to it - ie. nothing to lose.

That said, there are a lot of "nothing to lose" type opportunities that Prince has turned down over the years based on his desire not to compromise his IP, etc... so it is an interesting decision, if not a particularly exciting one.

http://www.20min.ch/ro/musique/news/story/Prince-signe-pour-trois-albums-sur-un-label-suisse-30984632

As already reported in the concert forum news, there are reports that Prince has some kind of a deal with a suisse funk/house label Purple Music and they report some new albums are coming with the head of the label, DJ Jamie Lewis, will be remixing some of the music for clubs etc..

The first single is said to be Dance 4 me, which is why i still have doubts...

But he has apparently a good name in the house scene. Let`s wait and see...

translation:

It's a dream come true, we still find it difficult to believe it! "Arnold Meyer, responsible for promotion Purple Music, does not hide his delight in telling us the scoop: Prince has signed on to release his next three albums on the label of Swiss house, established in 1997 by DJ Jamie Lewis and his wife, Manuela de Pasquale.

During his visit to Zurich in August, the author of "Purple Rain" remained in Switzerland a few days after his concert at the Hallenstadion. He worked in a local studio and asked its management to find a label for its future output.

"As they were in Switzerland Purple Music topped the pages in the search engine on their computer," explains Jamie Lewis. DJ funk of his past and the impressive catalog of the label (over 400 titles including Cerrone, Imagination and Jocelyn Brown) have won the American star, who wants to give a direction more "club" to his music.

Prince's entourage then attempted to contact by telephone Purple Music offices in Winterthur: without success. And for good reason, the DJ and his wife were on holiday abroad. Manuela received an email from the management of the star who asked him his mobile number as the office did not answer. Thinking first of spam, it still sent his contact, without much hope. A few days later, the Prince met the managers responsible for the Germanic label. And after four hours of discussions, the contracts were signed.

A first single in November

"Prince is currently recording in his studio in Minneapolis, new music mixing funk and house, said Arnold Meyer. We have already received the first two singles, "Dance 4 Me", scheduled for November and "2 Nite" that will follow. "On this last, Prince invited his protégé, singer and model, Bria Valente. The first of three albums released next year.

At the request of Kid, its output will be available worldwide in digital as well as vinyl. On each single, Jamie Lewis remix songs from Prince.

And financial side? The Alemanni acknowledge that they have paid an advance to Prince, but refuse to disclose the amount. "It's top secret! We do not communicate about it, "they say.

It's really about the same, actually.

Possibly worse, considering the quality of the remixes he already commissioned for this song a couple years ago.

I didn't say I wasn't giving it a chance. I said that this news is on par with no news. And since this is Prince, it'll probably never materialize anyway. shrug

I kinda semi-liked one of the Dance4Me remixes... but as somebody else said, he's had way better. I listen to a lot of dance music, so if the people he has remixing his tracks are any good I'll be looking forward to hearing these.

And to the person who said "without new music" something something... Club music is rarely about playing just new tracks... DJ's play whats good, they mix in some new stuff occaionally depending on the audience or venue. But at real clubs the age of the track is meaningless. DJ's mix songs that go with the flow of the energy they're trying to create.

Change it one more time..

Well I don't know of any clubs whose energy is that of a middle aged religious man wearing cashmere socks in his Louis Vuitton crocs.

Maybe that's why this is being done in Europe.

lol.. hey, if Gloria Estefan can come back with a club song thats getting play, surely Prince can if he just lets the right people get the tracks. Give em to Diplo or Dillon Francis and he'll have platinum on his hands...

Change it one more time..

Most of his tentatives at recording "dance music" (i.e. house & techno) were deep failures, weither he did it himself of asked remixers to help, so I'm not too excited about this. Prince, for some reason, never managed to catch what made house & techno music great, and often only managed to get the most corny aspects of it (Go-Go Dancer, Fantasia Erotica, the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic remix, 1999 The New Master, Take Me 2 Your Leader, the loads of awful Junior Vasquez and Keith Cohen remixes from 1991-92, the Dance 4 Me remix from 2009, etc.). There are a few exceptions, though, such as "The Human Body" and the Jason Nevins mix of "TGRES", but well... I wouldn't bet a dime on these future remixes...

Hehehe, indeed. According to The Life & Music Of Kate Bush it took her a loong time to work out what to do with it and how to rescue the track.

However, it was not a "dance" mix, just a collaboration.
