Amen brothers and sisters Prince is a grown azz man. He has made his own choices. Larry, has been a mentor, father figure, confidant, "brother" and friend through some very trying times. I for one don't hate Larry. He's a talented musician and a grown azz man, too. He was paying his bills long before Prince's Little Red Corvette pulled into Graham Central Station. But let's keep it real. I have not posted on this site in 9 months but the venom spewed towards Larry makes one wonder where people's heads really at. Probably in their bleep. Dissing Larry's music is just ignorance. Prince stopped cursing because he has grown the bleep up. I for one am proud of the alliance Prince has with his "brother" Larry. Real friends are hard to find and keep. Even more so in the music businees where many have come and left Prince's fold Larry is still on the throne. Nuff said.

Prince is Still on the Throne,

Prince is a grown man and ultimately made the choice himself but, from the outside (at least to me) Larry Graham coming on the Prince scene marked a dramatic tangent in Prince music that has continued to this day....its not just Larry but I think its widely aknowledge that Larry was the catalyst.

This is just seems to be the genera opinion on here before I get jumped on -

Prince was, it seemed, still doing some soul searching under the name O( > ...then Prince started to work with Larry Graham and, by Princes own admission, Larry took him to task about swearing and raunchy lyrics saying that only uneducated people swore because they were stuck for articulation (tell that to Stephen Fry). Obviously theres the introduction to JW faith and certain political/social views and theories which, unlike any of the other religious influences Prince has displayed in his music, really seemed to change the feel of the majority of track...how could it not, Prince was now using his music to do The Work.

It also coincides with the (at the time in my opinion) awful New Power Soul album which over time has got better due to virtue that theres plenty of other more recent stuff to pip it round the U-bend.

It may be nothing to do with Larry, Jehovah Witness faith, a change is subject matter, an interesting view on certain political and social situations,...but something changed and has never really got back to how it was before it jumped track.

It has been argued that perhaps Larry exploited Princes disillusionment with the music biz and 'got his claws' into him to champions certain views dear to Larrys heart...he ceratin succeeded in getting his influence on tape, on tour and even probably boosted a few sales of his own music that wouldnt have been shifted if the 'associated artist' tag hadnt been slapped on him

You cant really BLAME Larry for Princes choices because he made them but I guess you could apply the 'in with the wrong crowd' principle if you consider the influence detremental

You forgot to mention that Larry (accidently OR on purpose) inspired Prince's borderline homophobia that damn nearly costs Prince's friendship with Wendy & Lisa.

Almost all world religions are against LGBTs due to (false?) doctrines. The JWs are no exception.

^^ Prince always was like that though... I doubt Larry influenced any of that. That was probably in him all along.

Exactly, from almost the very beginning Prince has had CHRISTIAN religious imagery and lyrics in his music.

I laugh at people who are so shocked and appalled that he's using his religion to gets his message across when he's done it his whole career.

Oh please! rolleyes Even Pagans, Satanists, Jews, AND Muslims can have religious imageries in their music. Just ask Madonna, Marilyn Manson, & Lady Gaga! lol

And BTW, , where exactly was Prince's "Christian Values" when he wrote songs such as Bambi, Head, Sister, Jack U Off, Lets Pretend We're Married, Darling Nikki, Gett Off, & Come? My point exactly.

Real "Christians" do not write nasty explict songs, plain and simple.
