I was wondering if some of y'all think it's time 4 Prince 2 form an all-white NPG...as in, all members are caucasian.

The reason I ask, no conclusions are drawn here, is that I have never, honestly, never heard a peep of a harsh word written about those former members categorised in this group.

Lisa, Wendy, Fink, Eric Leeds, Bobby, Diamond and Pearl even Ida now, appear to receive milder and less critisism or even vitriol than do the darker members of the NPG.

Think of how the backup singers, Shelby and others are dissed time and time again. Think of the border-line anger against Andy (from some) has brought up almost - jealousy. Think about Larry's G's name here...or, Tony M.

I stand to be corrected if even some one can quote or direct me to a thread where white NPG members at the receiving end of the org's "attack" league...but the questions remains:

Do some of y'all want an all-white, caucasian NPG?

[Edited 10/16/11 5:12am]

There once was a guy who wanted an all-white world ...not only a band.

Same principle.

Some tragic things have gone down in the world due to this 'theme'

It is a serious matter, not some fun 'aesthetic' question.

The white / caucasion has dominated the black / african to injury.

Prince is very much alert to this, and speaks of it as discreetly as he can.

Here comes a topic maker with a 'fun idea' totally disrespectful to Prince and many people on planet earth.

I have reviewed this thread to understand what it is trying to achieve.

As far as I can tell, it seems to be arguing that there are possibly some people who follow Prince / post here who either consciously or sub-consciously criticise some band members based on that band member's race or ethnicity. The OP has provided one link (doesn't properly work - but I have checked it out) to a thread about Tamar where people praised or criticised Tamar's musical ability; that thread then also moved on to discussion of the race / ethnicity of Tamar / other band members.

There is room for discussion of racism on prince.org but site rules to which we all sign up are unequivocal:

Do not post racist or 'hateful' material. This means no racist/homophobic comments, period. Discussions of racism itself in the proper forum are OK. Making hateful comments, directed at a person or group, may get your account immediately suspended. We are extremely serious about this. prince.org is not a place for racial bigotry or hateful speech.

------------------------------------

As I stated in an earlier post, the underlying premis of the opening thread is to enquire "who on prince.org thinks Prince's band should be 100% white?" The title itself is provocative and the OP appears to be suggesting (I think) that there is perhaps some 'pattern' showing that some band members will be subjected to greater criticism by some people on the org due to that band member's race or ethnicity.

Clearly, if an org member overtly criticised a band member on the grounds of their race, that would contravene the Forum rules so there is unlikely to be that level of evidence without a thread / poster being subjected to moderation. It also seems most unlikely that people who post here will respond to the original question and state: "I.think the NPG should be 100% white" Certainly, there haven't been any takers so far!

I am sure that there are worthwhile debates to be had on the subject of racism - most likely in the Politics & Religion Forum. However, I would respectfully suggest that some further thought is given to how and where an argument on this subject is presented before it is revisited here in this way.

Having given this some thought, I have decided to lock the thread.

Touchy subject. Diserves a serious reply. In the early days Prince didn't want to be regarded as a black musician either out of idealism (no racism!) or out of economic reasons (more money to be made with larger white audience) or both. So hiring a mostly white band made perfect sense. Then in the 90s with the name change and all that, he obviously wanted to get back to his black roots which explains his work with Larry etc. My guess is that the ones who are dissing the NPG are mostly fans from the 1980s who are just not that much into soul music. So it's not because of race, but because of the musical direction Prince is taking. Personally, I think P's records are not as groudbreaking as they used to be, but live it's a different story. Being a funk fan, I love it when he plays with Larry and Maceo.

Actually in the early days he didn't have a'mostly white' band it was even

Dr Fink Bobby Z & Gayle/Lisa were 'white' mostly ethnically Jewish 3

Andre/BrownMark Prince & Dez were of Black heritage 3
