'Rave' - a SOTT outtake? i heard that the track 'Rave un2 the joy fantastic' was a sign of the times era outtake. I presume that it was originally meant to be on the planned triple album with the track crystal ball and the rest of the SOTT album.
I put on 'Rave...' trying to picture it as coming from SoTT but if it is an old song, then i presume he's added to it. If you look at the credits, it says it was recorded in London, whereas the rest were done in america... i really would like to see what the proposed triple album that Prince wanted to put out was going to be. _________________________________________

I heard it was originally for the Batman album (or perhaps the album he had in mind before he signed up to do the Batman album). The Rave In2 version, which is a full on dance / techno-ish track, is probably closer to the original version than the Rave Un2 version. I have a live recording from '88 and it's fast and dancy. he recorded around the time of kiss, but didn't include it because he felt the cut was too similar to Kiss for a long time, until he reworked it for the album.

The released "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" is the original from '88 with the Clare Fisher strings edited out... Which would have been the title track of his new album in '89... That "Rave In2" version was just a crap dance remix done somewhere in '98... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

If memory serves, its more of a lovesexy outtake.
Recorded along with Pink Cashmere. A bit late to make the album, a little early to make Batman. .

ah so it is an old song...
i dont see how it sounds like kiss though. its weird how prince said he wasnt really pleased with parade yet its alot of fan's favourite album. And with the exception of TRC, his past offerings have been kinda awful. i wonder what he honestly thinks about them. If he thinks of them more highly than parade? _________________________________________

First came Dream Factory in 1986 with a tracklisting of:
i really would like to see what the proposed triple album that Prince wanted to put out was going to be. Side 1 Visions Dream Factory Train The Ballad of Dorothy Parker It Side 2 Strange Relationship Starfish and Coffee Interlude Slow Love I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man Side 3 Sign 'O' The Times A Place In Heaven Crystal Ball Side 4 The Cross Last Heart Witness 4 The Prosecution Movie Star All My Dreams Crystal Ball was configured more than once, I believe, and the Camille project was also shelved / incorporated, with a final configuration in November 1986 Side 1 Rebirth Of The Flesh Play In The Sunshine Housequake The ballad Of Dorothy Parker Side 2 It Starfish and Coffe Slow Love Hot Thing Side 3 Crystal Ball If I Was Your Girlfriend Rockhard In A Funky Place Side 4 The Ball Joy In Repetition Strange Relationship I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man Side 5 Shockadelica Good Love Forever In My Life Sign 'O' The Times Side 6 The Cross Adore It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night After Warners rejected the triple album proposition, a revised double album was configured in December 1986 and finshed the following January in the format released as 'Sign 'O' The Times.' Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic was recorded at Olympic Studios, London on 24 July, 1988. Prince worked on a sequence for an album, 'Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic' in October, 1988, with tracks (exact sequence not known): The Voice Inside Melody Cool Rave Un2 The Joy fantastic God Is Alive If I Had A Harem Stimulation Still Would Stand All Time Elephants and Flowers The album never emerged and two months later he had been asked to submit music for the Batman soundtrack, He sent Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (amongst others) to replace '1999' which had been used in early workings. 'RUTJF' was not considered a good fit, and Prince submitted a recording of Partyman to replace it in February 1999. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Pink Cashmere was recorded on 9 June, 1988 after the release of Lovesexy, and originally included in an early cofiguration of Graffiti Bridge (assembled in September 1988).Recorded along with Pink Cashmere. A bit late to make the album, a little early to make Batman. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I think you must be mistaking it with 'Rebirth of the flesh'.
I think there must be another faster version of the song, as the sample of it in the Batmix of 'Batdance' is definately not the released version. Not having heard the unreleased version before 1999, I'd always imagined the track to be uptempo, kind of in the vein of 'Trust'.

Why do you think it is different.

Not having heard the unreleased version before 1999, I'd always imagined the track to be uptempo, kind of in the vein of 'Trust'. prince sent tapes to Mark Moore and William Orbit for remix and additional production. They used material (including Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic) sent to them and added it to the version of Batdance they assembled. It's quite possible that they have used vocal tracks but speeded them up to match the mix as well as adding effects to give the vocals a fuller sound, for example. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. Yeah, but the verses of "Rave un2 the joy fantastic" that are used in the Batmix are different lyricly as well. Plus the tempo has more in common with the 'Small Club' version of Rave from '88. Remember that Rave was submitted to the Batman film to be used in the scene where 'Partyman' was used. I don't think the released version would have fit there, as it is too slow.

Remember that Rave was submitted to the Batman film to be used in the scene where 'Partyman' was used. I don't think the released version would have fit there, as it is too slow. It could well have been faster. At the same time, the tempo of Batmix was not necessarily the tempo of 'RUTJF'. Equally, perhaps a reason that 'RUTJF' was rejected was because it didn't have the tempo of '1999' which preceded it in the early workings, or 'Partyman' which replaced it.

He performed a version of 'Rave' on the 'Small Club' boot back in '88.You can also hear the title of this song sung in '200 Balloons' and 'Batdance' (The Batmix).

Some of these questions, this one, ones about the C.ball and Camille albums keep cropping up.
I recommend everyone here who hasn't got them purchase the DMSR, Turn It Up and Days Of Wild books. Uptown are the only people in the Prince fanbase who are doing research into Prince's recording history, and it shows. --------------------

Recorded along with Pink Cashmere. A bit late to make the album, a little early to make Batman. But there is a sample of it in the Batdance remix - and he did say in an interview that he recorded it in '86. The lyrics also make an appearance in the Graffiti Bridge film

Rave, the album version, cannot be the original version surely. It must have been completely reworked. I doubt if any of it is taken from the original recording. If it was then I'm surprised.
