What's the most expensive Prince record you ever bought?

The opposite of Alejandro's thread...

not asking what items in your collection are worth the most money, i'm asking what's the most you paid for something... that could be your membership to the npgmc, your trip to the celebration, your front row seat to a concert, your copy of strange tales of the rain, prince's supposed purple thong from the purple rain tour, etc...

a good example would be my owning a copy of the japanese only cd of mazarati. it regularly sells for over $300 on ebay, but since i only paid $40 through goldmine back in 1992, i didn't list it below... okay?

$700 My Name Was Prince (promotion only CD for Japanese executives at WB for the release of The Hits B/Sides, has Herb Ritts shot of the mannequin on the cover.) Short of original release of "The Black Album" and the USA promotional CD single for "The Future", this is the rarest Prince CD in circulation among collectors.

$500 TMBGITW Japanese promo only CD single 4U wallet size.

$400 Endorphinmachine Japanese promo only CD single.

$400 Japanese gold pressing of "Purple Rain" on CD.

$300 Graffiti Bridge Japanese promo only CD.

$250 The Rest Of My Life Japanese promo only CD single.

$250 Test pressing of "Chaos & Disorder" from WB with sample artwork.

Let me first say I don't really count bootlegs as "Prince Albums", and if I did I have never paid for a boot. I have always gotten them for free.

So since I have never really looked into "rare" official Prince records, The most I have ever spent on a Prince album is Crystal Ball $56.

Whoa! I had no idea this CD was worth so much. Each of the songs on this CD were hand-picked by Japanese radio DJs & one of them is my sister (she chose "I Wanna Be Your Lover"). She usually gives me all the Prince stuff she gets through her radio job but didn't give me this CD since her name is on it!
Oh, cruel fate! Why do you mock me so?!?

I have that one too... on CD. It cost me $30 and I never realzed when I first bought it that it was an original. The other most expensive Prince item I bought (which wasn't even that expensive) was the LP 'Charade' back in '87 at some second hand record store. It was put out through Paisley Park (supposedly for some sort of fan club that Prince had going back then) and I got it for about $25. I took it home, listened to it, copied it to tape and then returned it because I didn't think that it was worth the money (some of the songs sounded rough... little did I know that it was intentionally like this - these were original demos of some of the songs). Stupid me... I only realized 5 years later that there were only 500 pressed and that they are a big collectors item...

your info is incorrect. what you're referring to is a bootleg, and had zero involvement from paisley.

now, if someone said paisley leaked small club, 2nd show that night... i could believe that. (if either prince or uptown made the announcement.)

I paid $ 40 for Madhouse's 8 on Ebay and I thought that was a shitload of money...for how much would that go now?
I think I paid $ 50 for Crystal Ball, but without Kamasutra...where can I get that?

All very pricey, but apart from Purple Rain it's some of the worst music he ever did smile

Biggest expenditure would probably be flying from Istanbul to London last October for One Nite Alone (400 dollars). I guess that is kind of balanced by the fact that I got the concert ticket free, also won free tickets to Wembley Stadium back in '94 and the same for an aftershow (Gold Tour). Oh yeah, someone bought me the 12" of Let's Work/Gotta Stop, back when it was really sought after too. - So, can't complain really smile
