I think I had become or it helped me become desensitized to violence in film. maybe thats why I felt ill inside after the movie becasue I was being fed this violence in real life terms not action film terms. But now I realize just what the hell was going on.This was some Color Purple shit 2 years before it came out. Francis L was on some Mister shit.[/quote] Gotta agree with you there, bud. Francis L/Mister I am MrVictor....

Man I love that scene--its what Prince and his music were about..the carnal glow! Prince being freaky like you would expect..gettin to see Apples puddy in lace..and GOD is a BEAUTIFUL song...but the crack up parts is "sounds like shes laughing doesn't it" "king king---stop" lol. I remmeber the nervous giggles etc and comments when prince went in his window in the dark and called out to Apollonia to 'coem on". "Shit I wouldn't go down in there with his freaky ass" etc etc lol. "Climb in my fur."

Don't know, man. I was able to detach the movie from the "God" instrumental easily. Wierd like that, I guess, but great going on. I am MrVictor....

ROTFLMAO! Im serious though..when we left and went to the car my frenes were all jazzed talkin how Prince was a badazz etc but me, the big Prince freak was quiet and dour. I know you're being serious, that's what's cracking me up. I just have this image now of your mates trying to get you to dance after that movie but your legs giving way because you were too fucking depressed. Hilarious! I must admit, I did not leave that film with the same euphoric feeling I did when I watched Rocky. I did not want to beat anybody up.

I tell you the part in Purple Rain that really makes me cringe is when that club owner nods his head during the performance of Purple Rain. That shit was fucking embarrassing!

Must be the music. I think the PR soundtrack drew the attention of lots of new fans. Can't say I blame them either. However, as I've mentioned before, my fandom began to wain once this movie peaked. As a pre-PR fan, it was like, now the cat was out of the bag. The exposure must've been great for Prince. As a fan, how could I not have been happy for him?

timing with the Sound,Look&Image.also Prince had the Right Idea at the Right time&also was the Right Negro at the Moment as well because Let's Face "MichaelMania" got way out of hand&it was time for The Next "HNIC" to take Over.very Cleaver MTV type Movie that reflected the time period really well&He was seen as a Safe Pop Artist as well.He Played the Game really well.the Images in the Film with His Family&Girlfriend along with His Portrayal of Minneapolis Made DR.King's Dream Seem Real&United All.but lets remember it was a Film.but Prince Sold His Own Version of Camelot.Like MJ He sold a Lifestyle&for a Good While All the Main-Stream Crowd Felt Comfortable&Safe with there Safe Negroes Non-Threatening. mistermaxxx

Purple Rain the music album was a blast. The movie was nice but the music is Prince's claim to fame.
And by the way, in my opinion John Travolta looks like a Gorilla. Anji said: I remember watching Purple Rain and wondering 'what the fuck is so special about this that made everyone herald Prince as the next major rock star?' The movie does not have any outstanding actors/actresses and seemed liked you'd have to at least be partially interested in Prince to even want to pay the price of admission. The sexual chemistry was not exactly alluring. Afterall, Prince was not in the John Travolta mould for attracting women. I found it pretty fucking depressing, so where the fuck was the 'feel good' factor for non-Prince FAMS?
I can only conclude that Warners felt Prince made Purple Rain's music with the sole intent of becoming global, and they believed it enough to push the movie to such an extent that both the music and film reinforced one another. But was the music that powerful that it managed to get people to sit through that movie, and enjoy it? What actually happened back then?
