"Sign o' 'the Times" - Movie

Was flicking through DMSR yesterday and was surprised to read that Kiss originally in the film, but dropped.

Has it ever surfaced?

I've never seen the entire performance but at the beginning of 'U got The Look' there are clips of the songs that didn't make the cut. You can clearly make out which one is Kiss because Cat is dressed similar to the woman in the Kiss video. I believe the one with them (Prince & Cat) crawling on the floor was When Doves Cry (similar to the performance of it on the Lovesexy Tour).

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

COMMENT

Various performances of 3 tracks which were edited and included on the Sign O' The Times film. Also included here are the segues between Little Red Corvette / Housequake where Prince jumps from the riser (2 takes) and the segue before 'Its Gonna Be A Beautiful Night' where he touches the 'Crystal Ball' (2 takes). Housequake is undoubtedly the most interesting, and there are 3 different performances. The first is a flawless run-through. The 2nd is aborted by Prince during the 1st verse. And the 3rd is aborted by Prince due to him dropping the microphone near the end of the song. All 3 are filmed from various camera angles, and in total make up 1 hour 20 minutes worth of footage. Also included are the camera angles fixed on Boni, Sheila E and Dr. Fink and the horn section. Boni's is extremely funny as she busts some great moves from behind her keyboard. 'If I Was Your Girlfriend' is a little less interesting, and there are 5 different performances filmed by 17 different camera's. The final track is 'Hot Thing', and there are 4 perfectly performed performances filmed from 10 different camera's. Interestingly 'Hot Thing' (performance #1) has a completely different ending than the other performances and ends with Prince alone (whereas the others have him embracing Cat at the end). The picture quality of the footage is a little grainy and the colour has faded somewhat, however for rarity value this footage is pretty hard to beat. It's interesting to see the differences between each performance, and note what was left off the official release. However at a little over over 4 hours in length you really need a fair bit of stamina to watch the complete footage.

Yeah, I believe all of those songs were filmed but not used. I got the feeling he didn't want to load the movie with older tracks and just went with the shortened 'Little Red Corvette'. They're probably in the Vault collecting dust.

You can find the Official Canadian version on Amazon.ca sometimes. If it has 1999 era pictures, than it is the fake VHS transfer from Brazil, and a not even as good as the VHS, as those who bought it told me.

V10LETBLUES

When the DVD was released via a newspaper in England, a very kind orger was nice enough to send me a free copy. I was so busy at the time I forgot to thank him/her for their kindness.

Just want to send a belated thank you. If you read this.

I still have it and love it.

Again much thanks!

Have the Canadian version and it's very good.

Also, I think Prince/Management wanted the movie to tie in with the album or, vice versa, hence those songs exclusion.

Oh to see them ...

I should read (in full ) DMSR too.

This was the originbal length of little red corvette and i think it is included because it is one sequence with Play in the sunshine and Housequake.

has the total concert been filmed at all for the movie? Or just the SOTT-parts and LRC?

I knew that I just meant "shortened" in the sense that he didn't play the entire track.

I think the song performance clips were just edited into the video but am not sure where they were shot. In the clips the stage looks identical giving the impression they were all shot for the movie then edited out afterwards. It seems he just took out most of the song not on SOTT.

Picture quality of the clip and the movie are very different. It is obvius that the clip from ICNTTPOYM was taken from the movie. If the 'other song' parts of the U got the look video are from the movie they have been downgraded big time.

Watched "U Got The Look" yesterday, and the discarded footage looks great. It also looks like actual live footage.

It is in my opinion. But sliding under Cat and taking her dress with his mouth on the clip is not the same as in the movie. I recall this being done during kiss at the concerts. In the movie it is during It.

That scene was during Hot Thing in the film.
