There was a discussion on another website regarding the lyrics of Kanye West. It was pondered if Kanye's lyrics had become increasingly vulgar since his mother died. Some may say that yes they have and that though he has improved in his lyrical skills, he has increasingly become buckwild at times lol. It reminds me of Prince's lyrics experience, except backwards. Prince's lyrics in his heyday of course were risque'(hi Chic) as can be for their time, including his stage performances. Of course there is something to say for maturing and aging having an effect on your content. Many people say his lyrics and music were best when he was going through some turmoil. We all remember the interview where he stated that when he played Dirty Mind for his father, he asked Prince why he was cursing on wax. Princes answer was "because I curse.." I mean damn. I can see Kanye saying "fuck it..I have nobody to answer to family wise so let me let my freak flag fly now.." but Prince was doing it while his family was around and healthy. In the years since mny members of his family has passed away, his lyrics, content, and stage performance have taken the air of mass appeal and some critics/fans say boring safe material. One would have thought that instead of a "Reflection" he would have created a more sobering angry emotional tune. I guess that means this new millenium of "safe" material and what most critics call neutered, he has actually found solace in the decade and a half of tragedies. Whereas in the past, he would have came up with some angry piece(s). But then again there was Wally...when he was really hurt and apparently lost somewhat. So maybe this current trend in safe music is actually him in turmoil but finding a happy medium with the mature, melancholy at times, music and lyrics? Im sure writing from a place of anger may good for rock n rolll, but toning it down may be soup for the soul?

Kanye is at his peak right now[minus watch the crapper] MBDTF was fantatsic, just like prince's 80's & 90's work was. Prince seemed the angriest and most rebellious in the 90's' and some amazing, weird, psychotic music came out of that

True, but who knows if he gets the fire going again it is on!, but kanye is at his peak.... within a few years. I think lyrically he will not be as good imo thing's will calm down in his life. He had his mom passing, him doing the dumb swift incident, everyone hating him even obama disliking him, amber rose break up. So he had a lot of fire

I agree but Im more concerned with Prince's lyrics/reasonings

There is no connection. If anything, there's a negative correlation. I used Kanye's progression with lyrics (or regression depending whom you talk to) as a subject jumpoff.
