When I first heard ATMITW, I really disliked it and skipped it for many months.
Then, after an inadvertant - and initially unwelcome - discovery, I started using it as the aural equivalent of a "palate cleanser". I found that, despite skipping it so often, it was still the easiest song to get in my head to effectively get any other song out (particularly useful at shopping centres).
Suddenly something switched, almost overnight, and I had to start listening to it again. On the wrong day, in the wrong mood, song after song would get unceremoniously skipped, but that one I just couldn't go past.
Now I love it
Go figure.

Absolutely...alot of folks just havent given many prince songs that second or third listen... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Agreed, best song on "Planet Earth" and one of his best from this century. But you guys can carry on listening to "Chelsea Rodgers"...

Nope,
The songs mentioned by you are indeed better songs. I was trying to say that the way of singing on All the midnights is not exactly new for Prince.
But next to that: I think its one of his more enjoyable songs from the '00's, a well written, rather subtle, clever little popditty. I personally prefer it over predictable R&B fare like Mr Goodnight and the stuff on MPLsound.

the only problem with this song is that its too short!
I love the skalliwags line and the little beatlesque harmony at the end.

I kind of like it. Resolution is way worse.

I used to hate the All the Midnights. But then I learned that W&L had worked on the song, so now I think it’s the best tune Prince has released since the 80’s (with the possible exception of the 1 U Wanna C and Resolution) The wooh is on the one!

I like that too  | |

a good test is to play it to one of your friends whom is NOT a fan.........

Agreed. I don't get why this tune gets such negative feedback. It's the kind of tune that Prince used to compose with ease. The flow moving forward like Strange Relationship etc...
My problem isn't with the song but where it is on Planet Earth. It seems out of place in between Mr. Goodnite and Chelsea Rodgers. It should've followed C.R.

I have a weird relationship with this song...I mean..I hate it, But I love it too. Haha
It is kind of like the scene in 'Step Brothers' When he wants to hug his brother, he puts his hands in the way. Haha
It is annoying especially the beginning, but it falls into something sweet and sour in the middle and the end...But I understand how you feel it can be very intolerable! Haha It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Huh? You go from hate to best because of the people who worked on it?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Where did you see that? According to princevault.com, and I guess the liner notes (don't have them at hand) - the only tracks they worked on are The 1 U Wanna C and Resolution!

other than the part he ripped off from Here Comes Santa Clause it's...very mediocre My Legacy

from memory, the liner notes don't specify the tracks they worked on.

That was sarcasm directed at everyone who praise everything they think former associates have been involved with. I’m surprised it took this long for anyone to react to the bizarre implication of the statement. Anyway - The OP in this thread is an example of what I’m thinking about: http://prince.org/msg/7/234163 The wooh is on the one!

I think it sounds really cheesy. I can't really listen to it all without feeling like I've just watched Batman and Robin all over again. Maybe it'll grow on me.

vile, just vile and up there with his worst. That's not IMHO, that's just a F.A.C.T. !
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ah OK. I'm guessing/fuzzy memory thinking that princevault got their info from past interviews then, I vaguely remember them saying they added only instruments no vocals, and I guess this is when they said which tracks they worked on?

there is a song I can't listen to AT ALL, but I can't remember it's name, there is a horrible effect on the vocal that sounds like flanged ball bearings

The only song u have to turn off?
Just listen to Animal Kingdom before ATMITW and u will LOVE All The Midnights...

That's what I thought. I mean, come on, there're plenty of other songs that are worth burning. And most of them are on that album.
I'd rather listen to Wedding Feast. At least he knows/we know/it knows/the band knew it is shit. Midnights is all alone in the dark unable to see how shit it really is. Ignorance is bliss but only to those that can't see.
