Yes, everyone will have a day off and will spend 30 minutes in the morning singing Jughead and My Name Is Prince in an operatic manner, while kneeling in front of the Lovesexy and New Power Soul album covers. There will then be an 'arseless trousers' parade followed by a handing out of free ear cuffs and Prince scented candles, which will be lit in the evening while everyone parties like it's 1999.

Princemas is a holiday in your heart....
Prince is already there....everyday is Princemas. I'm firmly planted in denial

You should definitely start that petition. I'd like to see if Prince will send his emissary on here to tell you to knock it off (like he did for the Hollywood Walk of Fame idea).
BTW, I think your thread should be titled "Should Prince's Birthday Be An International Holiday?" The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

It's a shame some posters here are not taking this serious. I honestly am fucking sick of the Justin Bieber's, the Nicki Minaj's and Rebecca Black's that are ruining the music industry right now. A music industry that is infested with nothing but auto-tuning crap on the radio.
It's artist like that make me appreciate Prince, and I think everyone in America, or any part of the world, should embrace his legacy every June 7th.
Whether they are a fan or not, every June 7th should be a day off work and everyone can relax and listen to Prince all day.

I will do all I can to get this done and I don't think Prince will mind once he sees the millions upon millions of people passionate to have this day in honor of him.

As a few people have mentioned, Prince does not acknowledge his birthday and, for the reasons why he doesn't do that, he would take major issue with a plan where everyone else did - I guarantee it.
Instead, maybe you could campaign for a "Music Appreciation Day", which encourages everyone to spend at least part of the day listening to music created by musicians with actual instruments, etc.. be it at a live show, listening to vinyl (for those that can) or else just some quality CDs.
If Music Appreciation Day (or MAD, for short) happened to be on June 7th as a nod to the guy that inspired the idea, then all the better.
I'm not sure you'd get a holiday out of it, but you've got a lot more chance of getting support for a broader notion like music appreciation than you would for a national (or international) holiday to celebrate the birthday of a pop star (in the world's eyes), particularly one who doesn't acknowledge the day himself.
Of course, if you really must persist with the original idea though, perhaps you could convince Stevie Wonder to pen a song in support of the idea of giving Prince a national holiday on account of him being a musical genius. No gaping flaws in that plan

Wow, you're really serious aren't you? Prince doesn't even celebrate his birthday or many of the traditional holidays because of his religion, so why would he desire or acknowledge an International holiday of his birthday? I remember someone started a thread about getting Prince's name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame not too long ago, and DrFunkenberry posted a message that Prince respectfully does not desire for that to happen. Fans all over the world already have Prince celebrations, meetups all year 'round at their own leisure. He would probably refuse it based on his religious beliefs and non-acceptance of idolatry/worship, but good luck with that though.

I know it's a silly idea, but let him/her do what he/she wants. Personally I would love to see a Prince holiday. I think it would be fun, even though it may never happen.

I say . But I know it will neva happen in a zillion years. "Bring friends, bring your children and bring foot spray 'cause it's gon' be funky." ~ Prince

Try for a national (or international) holiday in honor of the arts, not one for a specific artist PrinceQuik. The idea is a bit unrealistic, imo, and Prince is my favorite musician/performer...

if it's a day off of work, sure...why not?
Arizona probably will try to repeal it though.

First, the notion of a singer having a national holiday is preposterous by itself. And as someone already posted there are so many great and more significant musicians that would be considered much more heavily than Prince.
Stevie Wonder John Lennon Bob Marley Bob Dylan Ella Fitzgerald Duke Ellington Louis Armstrong Aretha Franklin
Prince is my favorite musician, but people have to listen to other artists, instead of playing P 24/7, all day, everyday. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR
