Great era! The Time album is like the flip side of Dirty Mind album. In terms of rawness and funk, The Time album could be as close as it could get as it gets. The Time should be apart of this era also. | |

When Lisa joined the band in 1980 what do you feel her musicianship added to the lineup at that time?
Dr Fink: Lisa brought a wonderful sense of harmony and technical prowess to the table when she joined the group. I learned a lot of cool stuff from her and I always felt Prince made an excellent choice bringing her into the group. How did you feel when Prince made you drive Lisa everywhere when she first moved out to Minneapolis? (question courtesy of Lisa) Dr Fink:I didn't mind it at all because we became fast friends and I really enjoyed her company. We all know that Wendy was around the Prince camp before joining the band, what is your first memory of her? Dr Fink: I think I first met Wendy in LA when Lisa put me up at her house to work on some videos and session work for Prince back in 81'. Lisa Although written alongside the Dirty Mind material, this track instead points toward 1999 with its synth-dominated texture and use of a simple drum machine, creating a hypnotic feel. Written tongue-in-cheek about new band member Lisa Coleman, the lyrics state how Prince knows Lisa is nasty and how he plans to take her away from her current man(or woman). "Dirty Mind" was my introduction to Prince. I would hear my brother playing this music that I wasn't familiar with, but I liked. I'd wait for him to leave and then it was off to his room to hunt for that music he was just playing!!! I would be singing along to "Head" and had no idea what it was about!!!
I've become to appreciate this album more as an adult - with the exception of "Sister". I hated that song as a little girl (I was old enough to understand that was trash!!) and I hate it now! But the rest of the album is CLASSIC!
My favorite's are "Head" (still) , "Do It All Night" and "Party-Up"

Prince’s manager at the time, Owen Husney, recalled in an interview for Billboard magazine that he, Prince and Cymone used to stay up all night working out the gameplan that would eventually lead to the ‘Dirty Mind’ album. | |
