"White Mansion" Appreciation

I absolutely LOVE this damn song! A lot of "Emancipation" is pleasing but largely second rate music. While this definitely isn't his best song ever, I feel very happy, optimistic and free when listening to it. The power of music is crazy. This song just does it for me. I don't hear it being spoke about much. I can't be the only person that feel this way about this song... or am I? lol

P.S. I love that little note he hits after he says "Hoochies, they all wanna do me" ... then he says "But am I really happy?". Does he? I'm not sure. But I love that note!

Yes, I found my "Emancipation" CD the other day (can't believe I forgot that I had it) and since I've uploaded it to my iTunes, it gets played a few times a day. Such a picker upper! As far as the talking, eh... I don't even seem to notice it much haha

I didn't either until someone brought it up and then after that I always hear it now. I like that cd very much, White mansion I just love the energy of that song. IT's so 90s but its also just one of them songs, I love when he said "sell my publishing what a laugh! I don't know Bo but I do know math!"

I love it when Prince sings..."At the top of the road."

It's an uphill climb to the finish line.

Love the optimism of "white mansion" and the rest of Emancipation. A truly underated album in Prince's catalog. wink

White Mansion is totally killer. Probably my favorite song off of Emancipation. It's perfect!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Yes "White Mansion" is an excellent track IMO. The Hammond sounds so good on this.

Agreed. Well, save CD 2 for me. I only dig "One Kiss at a Time" and "Saviour". But the album, as a whole, is the BEST of the whole Symbol trip.

yes one my favs off Emancipation. A glimpse at the true Prince. I've said it before, I'll say it again but Emancipation was the last time I think Prince wrote lyrics that reflected a real person. Since then its been one pose after another with a few exceptions (Reflection for example)

Yes, I love this song (and most of Emancipation). I like Prince when he's depressed (I know this sounds terrible), I think he makes his best music when he's not just thinking about sex, partying or religion.

I love that song, but that woman screaming in the background really dates the music. That was definitely a 90s trend for songs.

My favourite song on disc 1, White Mansion is all dreams (realised). With its groove along vibe, effects and spiralling synth lines this was a song that was a focus point for me as I was starting to think about my future, leaving childhood behind and starting to build a career. And now several years later it still has the same appeal it held then. I would have loved to see how this one played live. And I loved the self referencing lines that drew attention to what this whole prince was about “sell my publishing rights? What a laugh. I don’t know Bo but I do know math”.
