All-White NPG? I was wondering if some of y'all think it's time 4 Prince 2 form an all-white NPG...as in, all members are caucasian.
The reason I ask, no conclusions are drawn here, is that I have never, honestly, never heard a peep of a harsh word written about those former members categorised in this group.
Lisa, Wendy, Fink, Eric Leeds, Bobby, Diamond and Pearl even Ida now, appear to receive milder and less critisism or even vitriol than do the darker members of the NPG.
Think of how the backup singers, Shelby and others are dissed time and time again. Think of the border-line anger against Andy (from some) has brought up almost - jealousy. Think about Larry's G's name here...or, Tony M.
I stand to be corrected if even some one can quote or direct me to a thread where white NPG members at the receiving end of the org's "attack" league...but the questions remains:
Do some of y'all want an all-white, caucasian NPG?

LOL
Fans of the NPG, are use to genius. Beautiful Shelby was only dissed to create conversation. IMO Mr Grahm is only attacked on his religious beliefs, not his amazing talent. There was not any border-line anger on A A. Only truth. Genius has no race. Silly...
Ohh and Diamond and Pearl were too cute...at the time.

^ True. And what about Michael Bland, John Blackwell, Morris Hayes, Mayte, Cat, Shelia E, Rhonda Smith, Dez Dickerson, Brown Mark, Levi, Rosie Gaines, Maceo Parker, Renato? They get a lot of respect from the fans. Everytime Morris Hayes comes on stage fans cheer him and chant his name and John Blackwell gets it too because of their talents.
Larry Graham is respected bass player, hes brilliant live, but his religious beliefs people dont respect.
I dont think Ida is even white.
Anyway no sure what is being said here but an all caucasian band is a big no, it would look weird. Prince likes to give unknown musicians a exposure aswell and Prince is a man of colour and wants to spread the love of it. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

Attacking him on his religious beliefs is as sad as doing it because of his race, in my opinion.

For your post to make sense, surely you would be 'corrected' if people could quote or direct you to a thread where white NPG members ARE on the receiving end of criticism?
That aside, I can recall reading many threads where various members of the NPG have received criticism - but there has been nothing from what I remember to suggest to me that the criticism has been overtly argued on the grounds of the band member's race, ethncity, gender, sexuality etc.. In the case of Larry Graham, he has received criticism on the grounds of his declared belief system.
I have come across threads with posts which have crticised band members who would possibly categorise themselves as white, but I'm not going to start looking the threads up because, again, the basis of the criticism was invariably that the poster did not appreciate the band member's musical or other contribution to the recordings or live performances. The band member's apparent race or ethnicity was not the stated basis for the criticism.
Overall, whilst I might be missing the point of your question, to me you appear to be asking in a round about way:
"Hands up those people on the org who want Prince to include or exclude people from working with him in his immediate band solely on grounds of their race / ethnicity, because, deep down, you only want Prince to record or perform with white people".

Yes. Members of the NPG are criticised due to their melanin content. It has nothing to do with showboating, screeching vocals and lack of basic instrumental abilities.
Great thread. Should be a sticky. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

^ Yes. Beliefs are private and personal. Not for public exposure.

White / caucasian american slave owners used to tie five horses to the strongest black /african slave there was.
One horse to one leg, another horse to the other leg. One horse to one arm, another horse to the other arm One horse to the neck.
Then the white / caucasian male would whip the horses so they all would run in each their direction.
This resulted in the black / african male being ripped to pieces.
All other black / african slaves were forced to look, with the one purpose that:
"This is what happens when you grow strong" = remain weak.
Black / african in america has expressed alot in music and have developed music in forms white / caucasians never dreamed was possible.
Black / african americans have been surpressed to a point that is by no means 'fair trade' and they still suffer directly or indirectly because of it.
Music has no color. Even though the black / africans pretty much created popular music like jazz and r'n'b it is shared with the world with ONE love across skin color.
Prince himself says : THERE IS ONLY ONE RACE , THE HUMAN RACE.

Touchy subject. Diserves a serious reply. In the early days Prince didn't want to be regarded as a black musician either out of idealism (no racism!) or out of economic reasons (more money to be made with larger white audience) or both. So hiring a mostly white band made perfect sense. Then in the 90s with the name change and all that, he obviously wanted to get back to his black roots which explains his work with Larry etc. My guess is that the ones who are dissing the NPG are mostly fans from the 1980s who are just not that much into soul music. So it's not because of race, but because of the musical direction Prince is taking. Personally, I think P's records are not as groudbreaking as they used to be, but live it's a different story. Being a funk fan, I love it when he plays with Larry and Maceo.
