Spot on. That said, maybe I was a tad harsh in the 'painfully amateurish' statement. The fact is, he's genius no matter what he does or when he does it. But some songs are more genius than others.

To my ear, the 'Bathsheba' outtake wasn't sure what it wanted to be, though it verged on the 'dream pop' sound of say, a band like Blue Cheer. It just did not 'work' in any coherent way. I wasn't feeling the Traffic Jam outtake either. But these are outtakes, so who knows?

Raw energy? Hell yeah!! But Prince still has that in his "newer" songs too. Feel the hammering in "Laydown". He still has the edge.

Cosmic Day has to be the biggest outtake letdown since.... what... Big Tall Wall? Fuschia Light?

There are also songs you don't expect to blow you away but do.....like Hard to Get '81 which is freakin amazing are barely resembles the version he did in the Rebels sessions.

They are all FREAKIN' AMAZING...definately need a release. It's like being a kid in a candy store to hear these for the first time and to realise there are even more classic songs hidden in the vault on top of the hundreds of unreleased songs I've heard already....

Still trying to find out if anything was filmed that day beyond the "America" shoot. ANy other songs on film? Also, is the 3-3-86 show at First Ave. only poorly shot ? I want a decent old performance of Paisley Park so bad...
