I like the movie. But I always skip the end and got to the credits to listen to mountains. The end is too cheesy for me

UTCM is better than Graffiti Bridge cool

^ what's wrong with that? It's shot more classy and he's quirkier, though he's a sex beast in graffiti bridge. Haven't seen either in full, but will soon

UTCM is such a well intentioned movie. I'm sure it's looked up more kindly in retrospect. The problems with it are visible, but they're forgivable. Pretty much everything before the car race scene is great - it's funny, the music propells everything along really well and it's sometimes shot, lit and framed very good. The opening scene is great, I love the lighting on Mrs Wellington as she lights her cigarette and blows out the light. After the car race, there are tons of problems and school boy errors - from the script, to the acting, the timing and especially the music which is way more jarring than it had been up to this point. The finale is a difficult pill to swallow left as is. I will say the kissing scenes also make me gag and feel deeply awkward for Francesca Annis and Kristin Scott Thomas.

It boils down to if you can forgive honest mistakes - I think the good outweighs the bad here, I really do. There's some rose-tinted glasses here no doubt - but my pair fits all, try 'em on! geek

I watch it from time to time just to laugh at my favorite scenes like the bats, the champagne delivery and the wreka stow scene.

Under The Cherry Moon is better than Graffitti Bridge for several reasons. The big reason being that UTCM actually has a plot where GB only has an idea. Trust me XxAxx GB isn't worth watching it has corny jokes, horrible dialogue, barely anything other than singing (the songs are good though), and absolutely fails at being a sequel to Purple Rain.

I think Graffiti Bridge as an independent movie that only uses the PR name to promove itself.

Michael Ballhaus is a real legend.

One just have to see the long "tracking shot" in the movie "GoodFellas" when Ray Liotta enters the restaurant... Or what he did with Paul Newman in "The Colour of Money"...

Its just so great!!

I'll have to check that guy out (Ballhaus). UTCM was beautifully shot. Just gorgeous. I thought of the b&w films of the new wave era in Italian films, a few '30s screwball comedies, and also of Gordon Willis (Woody Allen's cinematographer on Annie Hall and Manhattan ..). UTCM was camp/kitschy and fun. What I most enjoyed was seeing Prince stand still long enough to get the measure of him. That face! Made me wanna go to the wrecka stow!! That scene was priceless.

I really got into the storyline, so the ending was an absolute letdown. I so wanted it to go a different way! That's my only quibble. Today, no one makes movies that look (or sound) like that. I love it when someone who doesnt' 'direct' gets control of a film, because then we at least have a chance at seeing something fresh. I think it's just brilliant, warts and all. What a joy to see Kristin Scott Thomas in her early days. She was stunning. He's clever, that one.

I love this film. "The Pizza man!" and "Recka stow" --- great scenes! It also is the movie that introduced Kristin Scott Thomes to the movie scene. Not a bad accomplishment. And Steven Berkoff is great as the "bad guy". There's enough fun in this movie. Too bad it got such bad critics.
