Sexy MF Word on the street in early 92 was that Prince was playing a new song called Sexy Motherfucker. I was thinking, is this the best he can do? I wasn't very impressed with the Diamonds and Pearls album and a title like this was not promising. Then he did the D&P tour and this new song, dedicated to... the whores, just... hit! It wasn't much of a song, but the atmosphere at the shows, the sound of the band, the fun of shouting the title together with 10,000 other people... it just worked. When it was finally released, it was a hit. I still like the full band sound, the horns, the organ, even Tony's rap works perfectly. It's a Prince song with an attitude & I still love it. It's one of the few tracks on the 0(+> cd that I still enjoy. So whaddaya'll think? Love it? Hate it?

Love it. Back in the day I thought it was another Gett Off, only richer musically. And I loved Gett Off, so imagine how I felt about this tune. 20 years later, I still think it's one of Prince's finest moments.

Yes, love this song - the Symbol album was the first one I was fully aware of, I was in college, and I bought it, played it every day for a long time. (the 80s stuff, I was too young, just vague memories). This was when I had my 1st "real" boyfriend too, so it was like a soundtrack to that time. The music, even w/o the words, is great too, so I think he should still perform this, maybe w/o the chorus if it offends him now. The video is very entertaining - hilarious & sexy at the same time!

You're right, he doesn't feel comfortable the chorus anymore, so I don't mind that he stopped performing it. There was a censored version on M T V back then which went: Sexy motha... oawah! I hated that. He later (1996) in an interview with Spike Lee said that: When you hear something constantly, you can get swayed by the current. And I was swayed by hiphop at the time. True. And those days are over. But Sexy MF is still one of the few good things from that. time. Days of Wild is another. But... one thread at a time!

He could still perform it-just use the phrase you sexymother and leave it at that. I believe the single had that version and it was cool. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

One of his funkiest (maybe even THE funkiest) live-band albums tracks... O+>

"Sexy Mutha", as it was called, was the B-side to the "My name is Prince" single.

Everything that Prince reminisces about and preaches to explain in the song"Musicology",.. .. is already expressed simply and clearly in "SEXY MOTHER FUCKER".
