Back in his younger years, growing up in North Minneapolis, he probably had no choice BUT to fight. Don't know about after he got famous and got bodyguards but back then, it's a good possibility.

He once said in an interview (can't remember which) that he got into a lot of fights when he was young. I remember this quote: I don't know if I fought fair, but I never lost.

I once read somewhere Prince basically saying what you are saying. He had to fight and he never lost but he didn't always "fight fair". Unless he was being attacked by the cheer-leading squad, the fight wasn't fair because his opponent far outweighed him to begin with, so I totally think it is O.K. he did whatever it took to win and get out of there. As for now? Surely he could kick the butt of any man over 40 and his height and weight. He was quite lean and mean looking on the "Welcome to America" tour. Rumor has it that in early 2010 he did have that hip replaced. Also I think the man is a bit phobic about people attacking him and will never let himself completely get out of shape. Even if he has bodyguards I still think he has the quick reflexes to defend himself enough to get the attacker off him and run. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

...and it's debatable I suppose whether he could take on Estelle Getty even in her current state of decomposition... By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I think he used his wits to get out of fights, and if that didn't work, either his brother or resorted to dirty fighting, as has been mentioned.

I would imagine a kick from those pointy heels would hurt but I bet he carries a can of pepper spray aka 3121 He can throw his guitar around pretty well, so he could slap you around the head with it.
I bet he can bitch fight pretty well, but on his structure I don see him having much umph when it comes to knocking someone out. I think he would run away.... NPGUK

I was catching up some older episodes of Bones a couple of months ago and this thread reminded me of a quote from when they were interviewing a supposed "legendary music manager and promoter" (actually played by Michael Des Barres from Detective) and Sweets was a little starstruck...
Dr. Lance Sweets: One quick question: bar fight who wins: Prince and the New Power Generation or Korn?
Simon Graham: Never mess with Prince.
