How would you rank the ballads on 20Ten? My ranking:

1. Future Soul Song - It's a new classic. Great guitar riffs in there 2. Walk in Sand - I like it a lot. Underrated song. Sounds like it fits in the PE album tho. 3. Sea of Everything - Although it isn't memerable, it's not bad. It's okay in my book.

1. Future Soul Song- For the vocals alone...nevermind the rest of the awesomeness of that song. This is one of my favorite 'go-to' songs when I'm faced with those who say all P can do is yell.
2. Walk in the Sand- Very little substance, but nice nonetheless. I don't skip or replay it.
3. Sea of Everything- Not a good or a bad song in my opinion. Good music makes me happy.

Walk In Sand - maxipad ad We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

1. Walk In Sand - one of the best songs Prince has ever pulled off. Especially since joining the JW. 2. Future Soul Song - also a classic. I really suspect this was EVEN BETTER before the lyric changes. 3. Sea Of Everything - I jut can't listen to it.
Overall 2010 is more kind of bad to me than good, but Walk In Sand and Future Soul Song are some of Prince's all time best songs. I really would like to get that kind of consistent quality from him on a more regular basis, like we used to back in the day. [Edited 9/9/11 18:35pm]

1. Walk In Sad - It's the melody and chorus that does it for me 2. Future Soul Song - Probably one of the best songs he's written in recent times, along with Colonized Mind. 3. Sea Of Everything - I wasn't a fan of this song initially but it's grown on me and I find it quite enjoyable.

They all suck, except Future Soul Song starts out promising and is ruined by a dreadful chorus.

Prince did a good job of combining and capturing the sounds/vibe/music of the Stylistics, Delfonics, Smokey Robinson, Love Unlimited and other groups from back in the day in these ballads. I can hear a bit of those artists/groups in these 3 songs:
1. Walk In Sand - Love it; reminds me of a song from the former Barry White group "Love Unlimited" called "Walking in the Rain" and You are Everything" by the Stylistics.
2. Future Soul Song - Has a mixture of the Stylistics/Delfonics vibe.
3. Sea Of Everything - Has a Smokey Robinson vibe with Prince’s falsetto voice, beautifully sung and captivating. For some reason this song reminds me Smokey's song "Ooo Baby, Baby"

Tell us why you don't like them. Are there any Prince ballads that are better, in your opinion? I'm interested to hear what specifically you don't like. Someone said WIS was corny. I'd say sentimental but I see their point. Someone else said FSS had a bad chorus. Umm the chorus IS the song, so maybe they just don't like that hypnotic type of song. But what don't you like about the ballads?

The only ballad I can take on 20Ten is "Walk In Sand." I agree it is a "maxi-pad ad" but it's the only song on the album that has that organic feel to it and reminds me of a "classic" Prince ballad.
The other 2 (along with most of the album) are just unlistenable to me. To me, the whole album sounds like a bunch of incomplete ideas. The lyrics are ok, but the verses are too weak and the chorus is just bad.
If the chorus to "Future Soul Song" were more thought out instead of a bunch of oooooohh eeee oooohs, I might like it better. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

"Future Soul Song" is good.
The other two do sound like fillers to my ears, even if I've never really believed using that word in the context of Prince's music is appropriate (he could just as well pull out some track from the vault if he desperately needed a smashing song to fill up space on an album).

1. Future Soul Song IS the song of the decade~something inexplicably magical about this tune.
Sea of Everything is outstanding~would love to hear, see him perform this live. Walk In Sand ~Prince puts his heart in this tune which rounds out the trio~nice.
I love the entire CD~what can I say?

I like the sound of future soul song. The words don't mean that much to me, but if I think of his voice like another instrument, its a very pretty song, and I like it.
I never got into the other two. I liked 20ten, but these two back to back just kill the momentum for me, so very early on I got into the habit of skipping both. If only Walk in the Sand where there, I would probably just enjoy it for what it is. The other one though, I have never liked. I sometimes wonder whether all pleasures are not substitutes for joy.

I see your point, but for me, the sha-la-la-las are the grooviest thing about the song. To me they are reminicent of doo-wop of course, but also Condition Of The Heart, where he has all those layers of cool sounding ohs. Thanks for replying.

The major difference between the two songs (to me at least) is that he told a GREAT story in "Condition Of The Heart" and "Future Soul Song's" story is just an unfinished thought. The beginning starts off great and then just "puckers out" by the end of the first verse to me. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-
