It's not quite as radio friendly as "I Wanna Be Your Lover", I guess. And Prince was still relatively unknown at that time.

imo I think it's very radio friendly, for the rock/pop market but not for the r&b market.

It was a hit.just not on the pop charts.it did make the rnb top 20.back in the 70s most black artists were primarily just on the black charts.it was very very segragated.not having a pop hit back then didn't mean you didn't have hits.

Song is too awesome. It was wise to include this as the top two on the album to perform live

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

It sounded too close to "I wanna be your lover" to me.

I'm so glad we no longer need to rely on radio to find music. It might have been different in the cities, but I'm sure I wasn't the only small-town kid to miss out on a lot of great music in the 70's. In my town, we had one radio station (well, and a country station), and it was pretty much Carpenters all day, and ABBA all night.

To think I could have been rocking out to Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad... mad

I thought this might've been the reason. sad

because he is way too spastic in the video lol

IMO it's the same situation he faces today, where do you play it? On the rock stations, or R&B stations, or the pop stations? I can't really think of other songs from 78-79 that were like that, though I could be wrong.

I somewhat agree. But I have to add that it had no chance of being a hit because he sang the song in his high super feminane falsetto voice. A guy can get away with that on an R&B or funk tune but it just doesn't fly when it comes to a pop/rock song. If you look back , Prince did not have hits with his pop rock songs until he started singing in his lower register.

Didn't get this song until years after first hearing it. Now, I love it more than ever <3

If that thing was on 3121 or 20Ten, people would be ranting about how it was the worst song ever.

I don't get why people like that song. it's not bad, but certainly not a hit single.

To be honest I feel this song was rushed. Something seems unfinished with that song. I think the guitar solo near the end (and the chorus) were the saving graces of this song.

And if it's still good to ya,

Why you wanna treat me so bad?

You used to love it when I'd do ya,

You used to say I was the best you'd ever had

I got fallinluv for this one.

This song doesn't hit me right. It's not complete feeling. I get the idea, this sounds like a precursor to Dirty Mind. It's just.... Not that good.

DECENT. But not that good. Not as good as half the shit on that album, certainly. Plus, it's kind of a bummer. The music is maudlin, the lyrics are depressing.

Great song, especially the guitar-solo at the end. Shame about the falsetto vocals.

I love the song, beautiful guitar melody in the style of Thin Lizzy, very nice lyrics also, especially the:

And if it's still good to ya,

Why you wanna treat me so bad?

You used to love it when I'd do ya,

You used to say I was the best you'd ever had

great solo also and ove the live version with bitch part smile
