Prince's song...D.M.S.R. Back in early 1983, a group of twelve of us from different parts of town had a little dance group. There were 5 girls and 7 guys. We would go to a night club called the "Dixie Electric Company." On Sunday afternoons from Noon to 6pm it was open for teens. We were teens and there every sunday for a couple of years.
Every week was some kind of dance contest or "air guitar contest," for concert tickets. My girlfriend and I did win one dance contest to, "It's raining men," by the Weather Girls.
I remember at the time that Prince's "D.M.S.R," was the most popular Prince song to dance to. "1999," was played every week and so was the song, "Controversy."
"D.M.S.R.," was a song that none of us wanted to miss dancing to for many years to follow in the night clubs in my area. 20 years later, I would still hear that song in the nightclubs. This song actually had more popularity than "1999," or "Little Red Corvette," on the dance floor.
I always loved the song and I still do.
Do any of you have similar stories about this song or another Prince song that was in heavy rotation in your local clubs? Either way, this is an appreciation thread for a song that I would say was the most popular dance song in the clubs (for at least 5 years.)

I'm glad you said this was Prince's song, DMSR as otherwise we would have possibly thought it was by some other artist.

From Sleevographia:
The UK DMSR 190g Promo 12” is one of the rarest official promo on the planet. From the original batch of 200, it is believed only 24 remain. Back in 1982 WEA released a single disc version of the 1999 album in the UK, and various other destinations outside of the USA, fearing the public would not accept the full two disc set. After excellent critical reviews, USA success, and a potential European tour (which was aborted in favour of making Purple Rain movie), WEA decided to allow the release of the full double album in 1983. WEA UK took the unusual step to print a small run of UK only promos of DMSR, the track missing on the original single release, and at the time, featuring in the new Tom Cruise movie, Risky Business. The result was 200 superior heavy duty vinyl promos (SAM 172) which were sent to radio stations across the country. Some of the larger stations also received promo T-shirts, with the same black and white artwork. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I can see the struggle between the two songs. I love "Automatic," too...but promoting these songs today does not say to me that because they exist, I have total sexual freedom.
Absorbing music that is sexual, still comes with the responsibility of the person... It's an uphill climb to the finish line.

There is a video for "D.M.S.R." and other 1999 songs that have never been released. If I could have anything from the vault- it would be all promo videos shot but unreleased Starting with "Bambi".

It's probably safe to say that when Prince was younger he was looking for love like a fisherman laying a bunch of lines in a bunch of lakes. Eventually Prince, like everyone else desires a committment.
Locking the world outside of a devoted sexual relationship, (Marriage,) is the sexiest place for two spirits to be.
To dance in someones's arms with security is the foundation for sexual intimacy. For those people that don't believe that...line up for your divorces and your sad kids. It's an uphill climb to the finish line.
