Have you bought PRINCE IN THE STUDIO? Why/why not?

I have been wondering why more fans aren't purchasing Jake Brown's book PRINCE IN THE STUDIO and talking about it on here. So far, it is only out on kindle, etc. so there isn't a hard copy of it, but it has been listed on Amazon for over a year and I assume that most fans were aware of it. I am just surprised that more people aren't discussing it.

So, what is the reason? Has it gotten a reputation? Is it a topic (studio sessions) that doesn't interest the fans?

Overall, I've found it interesting with some new info. I'm frustrated that it isn't out in hard copy, but the $7.99 I paid for it on Kindle didn't break the bank.

And if you've read it, what were your thoughts.

Thanx

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I haven't bought it because, as of yet, there is no BOOK to buy. I don't do Kindle...

As for discussion of it here on the org, google is your friend. Or, if that's too much, here ya go: http://prince.org/msg/7/358209

Thanx for the link. I wrote on there several times, but as you can see that link hasn't been updated since June. You've given the best example of what I was saying. There hasn't been much discussion about it on here since.

It was my first kindle purchase. Up until then, I didn't realize that kindle was free to download to my computer, so once I did that, I could read it on my laptop.

Thanx for the info.

I bought it and like it. My review posted to Amazon:

I thoroghly enjoyed reading this book because it gave insight into the process of a genius. I was floored by some of the stories about how he laid down tracks (notably the first four tracks of Parade). It was especially refreshing to read a Prince bio that focused on his creative process rather than his personal life. The only reason I give it four instead of five stars is because there is an excessive amount of text relating to the technical part of the process (what type or version of a particular synthezier, microphone, etc.). At times it seemed like filler, but I am sure this is a lot more relevant to studio engineers who read this book. All things considered, this is definitely worth a read.

I don't download music, so imagine what's my opinion on ebooks.

I hope the book is published soon.

I bought it.

I also don't have an e-reader and at first I didn't know that Kindle for Windows is free. But it is.
I also like hardcopy, but I know that when I would have had this book in hardcopy, I'd probably wish for a digital version, so looking something up would be easy. smile

Although the book is written somewhat badly (including lots of typos), I'm enjoying all the technical details and new anecdotes.

In short, just buy the book people. It's $9.99. That's only 7 euro!

Thomas

Can you help me expand my collection?

^Same here. I'd be very sad if all my books (and I have hundreds of em) were reduced to a tablet the size of a playing card.
But getting back to the topic. Hasn't Per Nilsen already done this? Does this book add very much? reading

I didn't know it was out on Kindle. I will buy it soon. Problem right now is that I've bought 10 Kindle books since I got my e-reader, and I've only finished reading 5 of them. I refuse to buy any more books until I finish at least 2 more.

Yep, I bought it. I don't have a Kindle, but I read the Kindle books while laying in my bed on my laptop with the Kindle app for Windows. I'll also start reading them on the Touchpad I recently bought, so that'll be even better.

I haven't gotten too far into it just yet. Just been a little too busy, but it's definitely on my to-do list.

Books are things made of paper, which you can hold in your hands and turn the pages making that delicious sound. So, this is NOT 'a book' until proved otherwise.

After reading virtually everything Per Nilsen/Uptown put out, I'm spoiled and I want a VERY professional thing that can take from when The Vault ended.

I doubt very much that any pop writer can get anywhere near the depth and professionality of Nilsen/Uptown.

...until you finish and public your book.. lol

Still working on it. I just wanted to check in with everyone and see if the topic was still interesting. I think that I might have my book come out in parts. The first volume may be 1983/84, which would cover over 150 different recording sessions for Purple Rain, ATWIAD, The Time, Jill Jones, The Family, Apollonia 6 and others. I was going to keep working and come out with one big mega volume but it is just too big for now. Maybe once I am able to publish 2-3 of these volumes (83/84, 85/86, etc.) I can put them all together into a big epic book. For right now, I want to make sure that I am getting all of the information correct and build one what we did at UPTOWN. Thanx for the encouragement. I was just checking to see if this was even still worth doing.

so..yes...it is worth getting..think i only paid a fiver for it from amazon....

.

i understand people prefer to wait for a real book but i didnt want to wait...
